THE OFFICIAL 2024 - 2025 DALLAS COWBOYS SEASON THREAD || 3-6 Next Game 11/18 vs. Texans Monday Night Football

Casey Hayward signed a 3 year / $15.3mil deal with the Chargers....

SIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

They're waiting on Weedle.. And Carr seems like he's here to stay.

Both of those moves I hate.. Wanted Weedle until I heard what Weedle wanted. He supposedly wants big money on a multi-year deal... Year 1 will be fine.. But after that is a crap shoot, and you can really put yourself in a bind with him.

cowboys hosting nick fairley, leon hall and Dashon Goldson

i would of went after Fairley before i signed thornton thats for sure.

i dont mind signing leon hall for depth at CB, anything to get carr off the damn roster.

seems like they want to keep byron jones at CB also or it could depend how the rest of the offseason goes.

Wanted Fairley last year.... Go get him...

Take DT off the board.. And just have DE, DB & Safety left.

Hell I'd take Hall. And just go Scandrick, Hall, Carr & Claiborne.. Then just see if a really good DB falls to us in 2nd or 3rd.. If not see if one gets cut in June.. If not keep Carr, then let him & Claiborne go if Mo disappoints and look at DBs in 2017.

We had 5 holes on Defense going into Free Agency (just starters).

DE
DT
MIKE
DB
S

We've only filled 1 of them by Re-signing Rolando McClain.

And Cedric Thornton is a really good 3rd DT, but a meh 2nd DT from the 1 Technique that is supposed to help T. Crawford.

We did the right thing keeping Hanna, McClain, Wilber, Claiborne..

But can't see how Free Agency could have been any more of a disaster over the 1st Week when needing to address how to improve our team.

Couldn't find any info on Leon Hall other than he visited the Cowboys, I assume that means the interview didn't go well?

Dunbar said he's back for another year.

definitely worth the money he's got. hopefully he's healthy and can stay healthy.

RB Lance Dunbar is re-signing with Cowboys for 1 season at $1.75 million, per @caplannfl.

Figured he'd be cheap... I'm willing to bet we slightly overpaid.
1. Out of loyalty
2. Didn't want to chance a team gave a better offer.

Cowboys signed Oakland Raiders restricted FA DE Benson Mayowa to offer sheet of 3 years, up to $8.55 million (2018 is voidable), per source.

Raiders have 5 days to match... I would assume they picked a number they think the Raiders won't match.

Know very little about him, but apparently a lot of football guys really like him.

Blogging with the Boys thoughts on what they think our strategy is
The approach for Dallas may be to get a group of defensive linemen who can all contribute four to six sacks at affordable prices, rather than put a larger amount of cap space into one free agent who might give them ten or more. Given the high frequency of free agent acquisitions league wide who fail to live up to their contracts, this is certainly consistent with the approach the Cowboys have taken in recent years of letting free agency come to them rather than spending a lot to chase name players. We will have to see how it all works out, of course.

Alfred Morris & Patrick Robinson will meet with the Cowboys next week.

No match by Raiders on Mayowa yet. Less than 3 days left.

Alfred Morris signed with us on a 2 year deal.

Seems like he's our short yardage back now.

Also kills my gradual idea of Zeke Elliot at # 4 if Ramsey was gone. Still would draft a RB in Round 3.

Also Benson Mayowa's agent says the Raiders are not matching his contract. So he will be a Cowboys as of tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah if Patrick Robinson comes on board. Which apparently he's close to a deal. I'm not really mad about the offseason.

Wish they went all in at one position, and taken this strategy everywhere else.

But they've made up for it in recent days.

I'm a big fan of this off-season so far too.. I'm interested to see how we finish it up with the draft and post June cuts!

This closes the door on Elliot, which imo closes the door on trading back..

I'm all for best player available, but I really want Ramsey!

Patrick Robinson deal is done. Just has to sign it.

According to Clarence Hill

But he just switched agents... So that complicates it.

idk

to me all these low key signings leave the door wide open to trade back

Nothing for WR.

It's pretty much set.

Dez/TWill/Beas/Brice Butler/ Whitehead & Street

What sucks about Robinson going to the Colts was that he was ranked 30th among DBs by PFF.

Of people left:

Brandon Boykin is ranked 23rd
Leon Hall is ranked 24th
Charles Tillman is ranked 54th.

Maybe 1 year for Tillman... 2 years for Leon Hall if you want to go cheap.. Boykin could be a 3-4 year deal, a bit more expensive.

Scandrick - Boykin - Carr - Claiborne would be a much improved secondary.. Even if you hate Carr & Claiborne, as 3 & 4 DBs for a season, they have a talent advantage over other teams 3 & 4 DBs.

If you go cheap with Scandrick - Hall or Tillman - Carr - Claiborne....

You can ride it out for a year, then completely revamp our DBs for 2017.

Also one final note.... Nick Fairley was ranked 24th among DTs... Seems like that should be another name that we jump on.

1. Boykin, Hall or Tillman
2. Fairley
3. Get Carr to take a paycut, and push that money we save, to over the next few years, and still cut him after the year.
3. Re-sign either Crawford or Hayden.... Crawford has more versatility, so I'd probably choose him.

4. You guys won't like this, but if we get to within a week of the NFL Draft and there still isn't a deal for him... I'd entertain Greg Hardy on another 1 year prove yourself deal. Jerry Jones said he's leaving the door open. If you do it around the draft, you kind of limit the initial damage control.

on whether or not Cowboys want DE Greg Hardy back: "We still want to leave that open.''

I'm fine if we don't go Hardy, but think we could get a steal deal for him, and do it right before the draft, so that the media backlash is limited.

But if you can swing those 3 deals, we legitimately have only 1 positional need on defense (Free Safety), without Hardy it is (DE & FS) and it frees us up come draft day to not be too concerned about what position we're drafting..
Sure, BPA is something you should always consider, but when you're a team with a closing window, and many different positional holes, BPA ends up out the window, and I don't think that's necessarily wrong.
My approach to the draft is wherever you pick, you take the Best Player Available among all of your positions of needs. UNLESS there is a guy who is a free falling draft stock, and you can get a steal.
