The Official Black Mirror Thread: Season 6 on Netflix Now

Maybe you guys forgot or confused it with soemthing else like being able to binge 2 seasons and a special but Black Mirror has never had a 10 ep season  I wish.

The creator follows that British model of tv series like the BBC so at most there can be like 8 episodes in a season.

The last 2 seasons followed the first two seasons in a way; two 3 ep seasons and that winter special w/ Jon Hamm which is similar to the two 6 ep seasons now on Netflix and then Bandersnatch.

The increase in episodes I thought was a netflix requirement but it seems the creator has more control and was lazy with s5.

what was the point of the app notification one

Don't text and drive?

Social media/internet addiction
Reliance on cell phones
Blah blah blah. All that stuff.

One blog I read said it comments on how a desensitized people are to violence because at the end everyone just sees the notification and goes about their lives. They barely react to someone (gunman or hostage) being killed in a standoff. I think that's weak cause wtf else are people supposed to do?

All that said, I enjoyed Smithereens the most of the 3 episodes this season.

Maybe it says something more about me that I didn’t react to it

Funny in a good way or bad way, because never been a fan of funny in a horror movie.
You didnt like It? That **** was hilarious while maintaining the horror.

I thought it was just about how in society today everyone has their faces in their phones cosntantly and that new habit can lead to tragedies.

The whole hold a dude hostage, so you can talk to a CEO that runs a social media company to confess, and then ultimately kill yourself didn't really track for me.

Confused what horror movie did you think was funny?

It

The movie with the clown and the kids that came out a while back. Found it very funny if only for that one kid
I haven't seen that movie yet, eventually will get around to it. Is it on Netflix yet?
I am a grown man.

Most horror movies I see now are more comical than anything
I'm not saying they are scary, but some try and be comical and just are dumb.

Man, I haven't seen Smithereens yet, fell asleep 10 minutes in but I was definitely interested up to the point I passed out.

Striking VIper and Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too were pretty good man.
BM's best work? Not even.
Trash, hell nah, not to me.

I mean I wouldn't rave about any of them but No Way I'd rather miss them, either.
I was still Geeked on premise of all of them.

I'm not hating it.

these first 2 episodes are terrible

striking vipers is bottom 2

and smithereens was ok??? all that buildup to a really anticlimactic reveal and ending

Y'all know the sus dude in Striking Vipers playing the girl is Black Manta from Aquaman right?

Whole ep was Falcon and Black Manta having virtual sex.

As an actor, dude is on the rise.
I heard they were rebooting it, but I didn’t know he got the role.

The Get Down alum.:pimp:

Cadillac the gawd. :pimp:

Why episode 2 was an hour was beyond my understanding. Felt like I wasted my time and there was nothing to gain from it

Y'all some tough critics in here man. Lol

I personally thought the episodes weren't bad. Certainly not their best, but DEFINITELY not the worst either. Even the Miley episode.
WORST EPS: Men Against Fire / Waldo Moment (concept similar to Miley ep) / National Anthem

My synopsis of each and my own pressing questions are below. {SPOILERS BELOW}

STRIKING VIPERS
I thought this was good and very BM despite what everyone else says. You took a plausible technology, and put a unique twist and spin on it. This episode did just that. I think it only gets the backlash it does because of how uncomfortable it made everyone feel and if it does that, isn't it really a success? It wouldn't make you uncomfortable if it wasn't plausible based on the tech presented.

I've watched it twice now and it's interesting watching their, Karl and Danny, interaction with one another. Karl to me gives off at the very least a bi-curious vibe. However, he knew exactly what he was gifting Danny, so there's that.

A consistent question I've seen is why would they design the characters that way. My only real logic to that is the developers wanted it to be realistic. Much in the way that USS Callister was realistic. The only reason they were virtual Barbie/Ken dolls is because ol' boy purposely designed it that way on his local network, since it was supposed like a punishment / dungeon kind of deal. As soon as they escaped his local network they all got their junk back as it's the untampered design. I assume this to be the same tech as it seemingly performs the same tasking and they wanted the characters to look and feel as real as possible. Although not highly likely, it's possible they didn't think about it at all.

I saw this episode from an addiction standpoint a lot. Also dabbling in infidelity. Karl is apparently bouncing from woman to woman, never REALLY locking in on a substantial relationship. Which could be looked at 2 ways: A. typical womanizer or B. He can't find a woman that gets him like Danny does, which is what he wants. Danny on the other hand is in a loving and committed marriage, however we see him constantly window shopping. And lastly Danny's wife, Theo, who they continually demonstrate AND from judging from these comments the thirst for her is REAL.

Karl I think is initially framed as a sex addict in my eyes, while batting the blind eye to some evidence. But he also behaves in a way of an addict. Every bit of his character interaction would be the same if you switched it a hard drug (meth, coke, crack). When he first talks to Danny about how it felt to be a woman (I FIND IT MORE WEIRD THAT THEY NEVER SWITCH CHARACTERS BUT I DIGRESS). He compares it to a solo act vs an orchestra. It's an intensity comparison. Intensity of the high, or orgasm. Not once does he say it felt right to be in that body or anything of the sort. When he tells Danny he loves him, I questioned whether that was the sex or LITERALLY Danny that he loves. After Danny makes a clean break, Karl shows signs of what I can only describe as withdrawl. He was having a breakdown similar to that of the doctor in Black Museum. Smashing shorty and just not able to 'get off', i.e.- "These drugs aren't strong enough". Right down to his whole spiel to Danny at dinner. Reminded me more of a head looking for another hit rather than love. He's literally trying everything to find that high, and Danny is the pinnacle. No high is better

Danny, since he has the wondering eye, seems to be wanting to chase skirts, which brings light to another question I'll lay out later. For him the game acts as, porn IMO. He's just trying to smash something with a vagina that's NOT his wife. At least that's where it all starts in my mind. From there I think things begin to get a little muddied since Karl is seemingly sharing REAL and very intimate emotion within the simulation....as Roxette.

The ending seemed that they'd agree to moving into an open relationship to allow Danny and Karl their virtual friend time once a year. She gets to be single for the night and get some outside **** which clearly isn't going to be a problem for her to find. .....And he can give virtual **** to his friend, Karl. lol

I ended up having two separate epiphanies that I think many can agree with and is a theme that's already existed:
Love = Addiction
BreakUps = Withdrawl

Also,
Were they 'gay' the whole time?
Maybe. I still think Karl is bi-curious. For Danny I don't really think so. I think it took some time in game for him to even consider it

Is using the software like this cheating?
No, as no one's being physically touched whatsoever. So in a purely physical sense, how can it be considered anything other than
Yes, because that was clearly intimate. Once you get into the mental then I think it can fall into the line of cheating.

If you are using this software as a way to get off, are you gay if you either A. Choose a character that is not your sex, B. get matched up with someone of the same sex who has chosen a character of the opposite?
IDK about this one. How do you even know

SMITHEREEN
Episode Lvl: Worst of the 3
This episode felt like a bit more of a PSA aimed at people who are addicted to social media first and then to the conglomerates who create these platforms.

Man's had all the guilt in the world, not only did he kill his girl but also some random person as well.

On the end of the kidnapper, Chris, he wants to speak to Billy Bauer. But he doesn't want to have a conversation with him, he simply wants to rant his piece with no feedback. He doesn't want a conversation with the head of the company. He just wants to know that heard him (saw his tweets). The whole thing was basically a long twitter rant and confession before he attempts to take his own life. He actually gives us exactly what the episode is addressing about 1/3 thru when he blows up on the intern about 'dressing like an intern'. About the addiction to constantly staring at them, never looking up etc etc. Basically him BEFORE he lost his girl.

Otherside of the coin was to the developer, which I get BUT I truly think it's up to the user to understand and be aware of how that application is affecting you. Valid points, but I think responsibility falls mostly on the user.

It did bother me a bit we went thru all that, just so my man could have a monologue.

RACHEL, JACK & ASHLEY TOO
"I'm such a huge fan"
This episode was break from the truly bleak IMO. And more of just a story using Black Mirror-esque tech. It's very obviously using Disney programming as it's base for the drama. A device/format I think is purposely inserted due to the type of 'wholesome' Disney-esque character Miley is playing.

Two girls, with a struggling single father who's mother recently died? He drives a truck shaped like a mouse while he's trying to invent a pest deterrent which doesn't kill the animal but frequently fails at the NOT KILLING THEM portion of the design, which comes in handy later in the episode. One daughter is bubbly and happy but shy and awkward and the other is adjusted but extremely cynical but still sweet deep down.

It screams DISNEY.

I got some chuckles out of this episode.
Honestly, it's almost a mirror for Miley C's career.

Since they are using that particular format, it seems they went all in so it makes way for ridiculous plot devices like removing the personality limiter, by simply pressing delete. DELEEEEEETE???? AND that completely unscrambles the Ashley TOO freakout from learning she has actually died as well? Sure. But the entire thing was kiddie so I can ignore it. She essentially becomes the monkey from Black Museum with the ability to talk and move on her own so it's less dark already because of it.

My intial thought was the Ashley TOO, since Ashley clearly had a darkside, would end up harming Jack somehow, who looked a lot like a young Lindsay Lohan with brunette hair instead.
Second thought the doll was going to train an entire fleet of replaceable Ashley's to sing the songs directly from her brain.
Third, Ashley-O dies but lives on through the dolls and takes over her career (which sorta happened)

There isn't much to breakdown here. This episode is purely fun filler.

I appreciated the song covers they used this episode too. Especially that NIN closer. Love that song.

7/10 on the season. Not terrible but also not great either. Just avg. throughout

Sorry this is a lot, but I had opinions and I need to get rid of them all before I needed to rewatch these.
