The Official Military Thread. Vol 1

AF has a waiting list in most AFSC's right now. Might have to wait until fiscal year.
I came in, in 2001. Got out of active duty in 09 and joined the reserves. Been around the world, have 4 AFSC's and a masters degree.
Went AD to reserves, worked for Lockheed in between and now a federal employee/active reservist.

Reserves is where it's at. Now I'm an ART(GS) employee banking two paychecks and two retirements.

Been to Diego...best tour ever. Cheap alcohol, beautiful international girls and beachfront property literally at your doorstep.

Air Force is a great environment and hope those trying to join make it!

The guard is a different beast and does things a little differently.
Everyone is different but I would go the Air Force reserve route if AD isn't what you're after.
You'll drill once a month (weekend) and you'll get to travel two weeks a year depending I your unit and job.

Guard is more of a state mission and the way they do things on the human resource side sometimes makes retirements, pay, etc... A bit more cumbersome.

En route to the Air Force recruiter's office now...never thought I'd be doing this, but **** it, something's gotta shake.

Good luck. If it dosent work out try again in October. New fiscal year.

Thanks, I'll def. keep that handy just in case the cards play out that way. Just left the office not too long ago; scored an 81 on the practice test so I'll be looking to improve on the real deal, even though I heard that's pretty good since I plan to enlist as a broadcast journalist.

Never seen a AF medic. Im considered a navy folk now.....god I miss my marines tho :{

I wanted to be an Intelligence specialist coming out of high school but they denied me the job because my parents were born outside the US. :{

Getting in won't be affected by your parents birthplace if he isn't required to have a TS in his career field.

Marine MOS designations are assigned after completion of OCS and TBS...the higher you finish in your commissioning class AND your marks at TBS determine if you get your desired MOS, essentially you are competing for spots with other officers...

Ive heard the Army commissions out of OCS are "at the need of the Army" so I think they essentially assign you a job where the manpower is needed the most...might not necessarily your first choice

Navy OCS has you apply to your desired job designation which is then looked over by a review board...if you are accepted into OCS and don't wash out, you are then commissioned as that type of line officer...

no idea for AF, or CG commissioning programs...

I'm heavily considering becoming an officer through one of the ROTC programs.
What should I do in order to get into military law?

i believe that ROTC generally commissions line officers, not necessarily staff officers (thats through OCS, which commissions both)...and if you were interested in a JAG commission, you would need to finish law school, pass the bar, and receive a direct commission (at least that is how the navy does it)...

Can't be the reason..

Both of my parents and most of my family were born in another country. I still have my top secret clearance which you have to have for an MI job.

I go through these periods where I want to join the military then I don't .
I rather join the Marines but I don't want to get stuck doing something I don't like.
