The punchline of these jokes is dependent on thinking Lonzo is a supposed "bust"
Even though dude did no and probably would no become and all-star, he issues have been with issues
One being a damn near medical mystery.
Before the injury, Zo seemed like the type to player any champion contending team would want on their roster.
If he never got injured, dude would probably be in line for a $30 million dollar a year contract.

It’s pretty obvious Dallas had the easy Clippers and OKc run and they had some unicorn fairy dust in the timberwolves series. The timberwolves series was by far their best basketball and it wasn’t just Luka and Kyrie. Their role players were going crazy. Many fell into thinking that Dallas team was going to do the same in the Finals.
The Dallas we saw again Boston is the real Dallas. A meh 5th seed. Boston did what needed to be done to their credit.

He was never destined to become anything more than a potential high level role player.
Certainly not a bad thing, but that’s just not what you want with a top 3 pick in a strong draft.

It’s definitely what people wanted, but it was VERY evident that he didn’t have the handle to be like that. I appreciate when guys want to move the ball quickly, but Alfonzo never wanted to piece more than a couple dribbles together. And that’s what makes you more of a role player.

Stop it. Tatum and Fox clearly were better than Lonzo and Ervin passed on both for Lonzo. LA kid, good for marketing, everyone understood the pick. But understanding why they did it, isn’t what mattered in the long run. LA still eventually won a chip without him.
Magic should’ve drafted with his mind, instead of his heart. It’s similar to when Pete Carroll drafted Earl Thomas instead of Taylor Mays. People assumed the Seahawks would’ve drafted Taylor Mays because Pete coached him at USC. Earl Thomas turned out to be a hall of famer and Taylor Mays was a bust.
Lakers and Celtics both won within the past 5 years but Tatum and Fox should’ve went ahead of Lonzo.

Drafting, even at the top of the draft, is in part a guess
Not like Tatum becoming as good as he has a near consensus opinion back then
We have perfect information now, so it is easy to act like it was more obvious back then. And clown those decisions.
Also, again, we don't know where Lonzo would be right now because he has been robbed of two and a half years of playing, when he was 23.
Not saying he would be an all-star, but the punchline to the joke seems to be clowning him in order to take a jab at Magic/Lakers

Lonzo at 2 was a joke in real time though. They took a low usage guard with limited PNR reps #2. And some laker fans were all for it.
Even as Lonzo was figuring out before his knees gave out, he was the same player he was at UCLA but shot the ball better. Low rim pressure, good in transition and a corner boy in the half court.

Players drafted at the top of any professional sports draft are supposed to be game changers/HOFers. That’s how it’s always been. Especially dudes in the top 5. What are we doing here brother

Derrick White went 29th in that same draft and is basically what Lonzo should’ve been. Just not at #2
De’aaron Fox cooked him in the tournament as well. Not to mention his shooting form looked like Shawn Marion’s
