The Official NBA Season Thread: HO HO HO

There really arent any traditional competent American bigs?
Maybe they could ask Brook Lopez but this is probably one of the smaller teams USA has sent since maybe the 06 World Championship team. Miller, Bosh and Dwight were the only bigs on that team and they couldn’t stop Greek Shaq. Not to mention having Kirk H and CP3 as their point guards was less than optimal for size.

Yep. Really at a stage where a lot of the rest of the world has really caught up. Especially if Team USA is sending new guys/borderline stars/entering stardom THAT HAVE NEVER TRULLY PLAYED INTERNATIONALLY WITH EACH OTHER. Sure, these guys have “some” international experience playing together in their youth, but that was for a few week/months when they were 17 or something . Other players, particularly in those Eastern European/Baltic and former Soviet areas been playing together consistently their entire lives. And now, their talent level matches too.

It’s really crazy we are here now, and overall good for the game. I need some of my Africans to reject their European teams, and play for their fatherland country. Especially someone like Giannis. Especially him. Big weight on his shoulders, but I think that would be monumental.
Team USA just getting off track again…they gotta re focus on the program just like the last period where they were catching L’s, then the big stars bought all in for a lil while after that to restore dominance

FIBA changed the WC years, not many players are gonna want to commit two consecutive summers (WC/Olympics). And players don't want to do try-outs anymore.

Watched the game live.

Kessler was getting cooked by JVal. He is still to green for expirenced teams like this. Paolo was the best post defender on bigs.

Lithuania have a system that they know really well and u.s.a was figuring it out on the go. Ingram has the worst body language of all time. He does not even try to act like he cares

Eh like pmatic pmatic said it’s really more of a World Cup vs Olympics thing at this point, and not getting the same level guys to play both.

A huge chunk of the guys on this World Cup team are either not going to be on the Olympic team at all, or won’t be playing many minutes.

Maybe we should bring back the PF position. Yeah the nba plays copycat ball so u can get away with 2s and 3s playing the 4 but in int play the rest of the world still plays actual basketball.

It's especially true because Triple J needs a big forward next to him if he's playing center. Having true wings like Bridges, Ingram, Hart, Cam Johnson next to him is different when most of his center minutes are played next to Clarke or Aldama.

Bigs in Fiba can take the ball out of the ring unlike the NBA. Rules favor big men, but Kerr gonna insist on the NBA 3 guard lineups with a PF playing C

Ant shooting 26 times is crazy

Feel like you know something is up if that’s happening in international play.

Which is crazy cause contrary to popular belief the warriors are one of the few teams that still plays a traditional center and pf most of the time.

We gotta stop prioritzing floor spacing and inflated stats and get back to physical basketball which means developing bigs.

Been rooting against Team USA and glad Lithuania got them. People comparing this squad to the 2010 was disrespectful to the 2010 team. Look at the 2010 team and they were absolutely loaded.

KD, Curry Chauncey, Westbrook. Iggy, Odom, Tyson, Love and others. They had enough size to not get bullied and KD was killing everyone out there with timely buckets from Granger and Curry. Coach K is a better coach and his staff had those guys ready. They only struggled against a Brazil team that got hot and they essentially played a road game in the finals against Turkey (beat Spain) and blew them out.

Grant Hill ain’t it and he is going back to what got Team USA beat before the Redeem team. This roster is only marginally better than Team USA Boston that flamed out last time.
so who's KD in this 2023 team?

They don't have one. All this Ant could be this team's KD talk was just ridiculous to folks that followed that 2010 team. You had international teams running a box and one against him when he had other elite NBA players (Prime Rose, Russy and Steph) on the floor. It wasn't just his scoring but teams were trying to game plan against him which I haven't seen since. Maybe Spain did it with Bron and Kobe in the Gold Medal Game in 12 (CP3 was huge in the last few minutes) but that version of KD was a matchip nightmare.

I love Ant but can’t take his “ceiling” seriously when he’s so limited as a pastor/facilitator.
