The Official NBA Season Thread: I’m like Jayson Tatum in the Olympics I'm not playing

Not every trade is the Rudy Goober trade and not every trade is Sabonis-Halliburton trade where both teams benefit. The “grade” of the trade is fluid from season-to-season and team’s situation matter. After unloading all those picks and swaps for Harden, the Nets prioritized restocking their draft capital while picking up traceable players and that is one viable strategy to rebuild. Maybe they deserved poor but assuming those offers were out there less than a week before the deadline is pretty much trade machine speculation.

That’s where you need to realize from year to year there’s these things called circumstances that arise that can affect value
Harden, Kyrie, and KD are head & shoulders above anyone on the nets roster right now. That's the only "value" that matters. We are neglecting that the nets had all the leverage over KD as well.

Think Begley said Joe Harris was someone who they’re looking to trade.
He’s more of a salary dump though. They can get actual compensation for the other guys.

Hell, they could put Mikal Bridges out there and there’s no reason he shouldn’t fetch whatever someone is willing to pay for OG.

Suns cracked their window a bit more open.

Still common denominator here is that loser CP3. Gonna be interesting to see how he tricks this one off too.

Dog how are you going to talk about dysfunction at the top and essentially insinuate they should have exercised leverage over KD and held him hostage

Sometimes you just need to cut your losses and move on. In sports, business and life.

Heat fans what's y'all thought on this take?

Heat should be a selling team right now. They should have Butler available to the highest bidder with the best young player + picks. I’d then move Herro in the summer when that poison pill expires.

Team needs to be rebuilt around Bam. And Bam only (from the existent group). He’s taken major strides forward this season and the only thing on the team to be excited about in the future. Ideally, you want to pair him with a wing that is a superstar #1 go to option, and get a better third guy than Herro. The trio of Jimmy/Bam/Herro ain’t it and never will be. That ship has sailed. We are just wasting time and diminishing (due to age) one of the only assets we have with plus value. A Butler trade is the only ticket to a proper rebuild in terms of the assets you can get in return……

And this is not a knock on Jimmy….. the Miami Heat FO failed him in his tenure here. Massively. They whale hunted only and failed to surround him with a strong enough supporting cast. He’s turning 34 in September. We are not going to get another superstar while he’s here. Trade for rebuild while you can.

If I know Pat Riley though…. The Heat are going to make a move for a rotational piece by the deadline, and trade Herro and picks for Bradley ******* Beal in the summer. They’re going to waste half the summer going after KD as if a Herro + max 3 FRPs package can’t be crushed easily by rival teams.

Riley is washed. Love him for life but please retire. This FO has made nothing but TERRIBLE crippling moves for years now.

And don’t credit the Bam and Herro picks. Wasn’t Riley’s decision, just like Dwyane Wade wasn’t. He wanted Kaman or Hinrich!

Minnesota ownership gave Tim Connelly equity & he responds by intentionally trying to get fired. He’s David Kahn 2.0. Will never get anything other than assistant jobs after this.

KD  The Nets franchise was supposed to be a vessel for KD & Kyrie to flex their influence over every aspect of the team.

Then they get swept in the first round & Joe Tsai is befuddled  It was no longer worth it.

If you have leverage, you exercise it. They could have gotten a better deal in the off season. You're delusional if you think they couldn't have gotten a better haul than this. We'll revisit these takes in a few years.

Fell asleep with NBA TV running in the background. I woke up around 4-5 am and saw it on the screen and thought I was seeing things and just turned it off and went to sleep. Now I'm up and see that this is a real thing

KD is 34 and injury prone
Harden is 33 on the decline and quit on 2 teams
Kyrie is 30 and somewhat of a malcontent

No one is trading superstars/allstars for that bruh

Your best bet is young players w/ potential and picks.Outside of Ben,Nets have a lot of positive assets and maneuverability.

The problem with every single Chris Paul team including this one before the trade is that they needed him to score & he was always reluctant/unable to get shots up & get above 25 a night consistently.

This is the PERFECT team for how he likes to play, especially at this point in his career. There’s gonna be playoff games where KD & Book combine for 50 shots  And Ayton is still there too.

CP wasn’t really looking to be a scorer anymore & now it’s less of an issue.
