The Official NBA Season Thread: I’m like Jayson Tatum in the Olympics I'm not playing

Folks definitely aren’t gonna care about random undrafted guys that are 6-7 years older than Bronny
Nothing new about the way Summer League is covered. The focus is always on the biggest name guys who are there.

Sampson was nice! Too bad he couldn’t stay healthy and have a full career otherwise we’d be talking about him more often.

The Spurs tried to copy the Rockets Twin Towers when they built the Duncan-Robinson duo.

HOU went to the Finals in 86 because Sampson and Akeem formed the The Twin Towers aka the 2-Big lineup. It was what was needed to compete with LAL and BOS.

OKC with Chet and Hartenstein
MIN with Rudy and KAT
BOS with KP and Horford

The top three teams in the NBA all have 2-Big lineups. MEM is coming (again) with their 2-Big lineup of Edey-JJJ.

And I’m sure Popovich will eventually find a solid PF to play alongside Wemby.

Pelinka too dumb to realize these teams simply saw how the 2020 Lakers was built - multiple bigs and a huge frontcourt surrounded by NUMEROUS 3&D wings and guards with at least two veteran floor generals on the roster to keep everyone under control.

Only reason HOU couldn’t defeat the Celtics in ‘86 Finals was because BOS acquired Bill Walton that year, which was the perfect help Parish and McHale needed to battle Sampson/Olajuwon and Abdul-Jabbar/Thompson

And when Olajuwon finally won a chip in ‘94, he still needed 6’11” legit big man Otis Thorpe and 6’10” athletic stretch 4 who could board Rob Horry

BOS is the champ today because they signed 7-3 Kristpas Porzingis to help Horford and Kornet battle the bigger contending teams. They hardly needed KP in the Finals because Lively and Gafford showed their inexperience but had BOS played MIN or DEN, I bet KP finds a way not to miss any games in the Finals.

Kornet was a human victory cigar and Porzingis missed most of the playoffs.
You missed the point. Clearly

BOS didn’t even need KP when they were playing a Cavs team that was missing their best big man Allen the entire series. This was obvious lol

They didnt need KP against DAL for reasons I already explained.

But had BOS played MIN or DEN in the Finals you’d be lying to yourself if you think Porzingis would not have been needed for all 7 games to win the series

Celtics have 5 centers for a reason.

The game will always be about BIGS :pimp:

You think BOS acquired KP in part because they didn’t want to have to suffer having 6’9” Horford guard 7’5” Wemby, 7’4” Holmgren and 7’0” Jokic and 7’1” Embiid and 7’0” Townes and damn near 7’0” Giannis etc etc etc? Bet Brad had that in mind 😉

Versatility. A concept that escapes you for some reason
Still missing the point

Versatility is a given. You need versatility in ANY sport, team or individual.

I’ll give you tennis. Nadal ain’t the biggest dude, unlike Sampras, Djokovic, or Federer.

But he is one of the GOATS because he was versatile and his versatility allowed him to win tournaments on any playing surface

But in basketball, as history has shown us time and time again, having a lot of legit bigs and size is the foundation of what makes a championship team.

I can name A TON of versatile contenders throughout history but chances are they didn’t win because the team that ousted them from the championship likely had more legit impact bigs in their playoff rotation.

Even Jordan’s teams were versatile because all 6 title teams had a multitude of bigs who had versatile games. But without them or if he had less of them, MJ as great as he was would not have won all those championships. You think MJ gets past Laimbeer, Salley, Mahorn , Buddha Edwards, Rodman in ‘91 without Cartwright, Horace Grant, Levingston, Perdue, and Scott Williams and instead had a team full of guards and wings with like one center LOL

Everyone on Boston being able to shoot 3s is a bigger contributor to why they won
You’re right. Because that’s their identity.

It’s their style of play. But it ain’t LAL’s 2020 identity. And it wasn’t 2023 DEN’s identity either.

Those two teams are always in the bottom 10 when it comes to three point attempts per game.

But the reason BOS has 4 rotational centers is because they know that in order to win a championship, no matter what they’re identity is, you need impact bigs to compete at a high level and adapt to any style of opponent because in sports….Styles make fights

You called out two Celtics as the key pieces when they didn’t play.

Your point is moot.

When it comes to being a champion nowadays, one thing is clear

Bigs, wings, guards, coaches, equipment managers.

Everybody

No need to continue debating a point when the other side constantly doesn’t get the point being made.

You’re just trying to be smart at this point.

Have a good Sunday
