The Official NBA Season Thread: Las Vegas Summer League

The Process Sixers tanked so hard OKC could literally go 0-82 this season and theyd have a better record over the last 3 seasons. Presti doesnt get disrespectful with it until post all star when we are no longer playing “games of consequence””

If you're in the camp that believes a championship is the only kind of success in sports that matters, then yes, the Sixers not winning a championship with any associated with The Process would make The Process a failure.

I am not in that camp, however. The Sixers amassed enough talent through The Process to be among the favorities, on paper, to win the championship in some recent seasons. That makes The Process a success to me. But winning a championship is hard and requires some breaks and luck and these Sixers haven't had enough things go their way to get there. Like, who knows what happens if Kawhi doesn't hit the 4-bouncer game winner against Philly to send them home in 2019?

Fultz and Simmons can be argued were the right picks at the time. No one saw what happened coming.

But 6 years of all in tanking and no ECF or Finals appearances. Idk man.
More like 4 years of tanking. They got a treasure chest of picks and players so the Process definitely worked

Outside of KD going to a prime Warriors team, there's no such thing as guarantees in the result

The Warriors almost lost themselves

Kinda shows regardless of who your scouting department consists of, how much luck is involved in the drafting process.

That's arguably 5 failed drafts

2013: Michael Carter Williams
2014: Joel Embiid
2015: Jhalil Okafor
2016: Ben Simmons
2017: Fultz
2018: Zhaire Smith

Tanking in 2022 isn’t the same as it was in 2014. The flattened draft odds really changed things but Hinkie did the right thing being OD about it because 25% odds to win the lottery vs 16.4% for the second and third worst teams is very significant.

Famb you aren’t considering the alternative. There is no way you think they would have been better off from 2018-2019 to right now if they didn’t tank those years. The Process worked as best as it could and was the right move for the franchise at the time.

You may have a problem with their missed draft selections but bringing that up would only recycle the conversation we had last week about the draft being hit or miss/random. Teams miss on picks every year, B.

What is a failure?

Cause I was told Lebron going to LA was a failure for only winning 1 ring and now I'm getting told the Process by Philly was a success cause now they're a perennial upper middle of the pack contender.

Craziest thing is Philly was able to get Jimmy for a package of Covington/Saric/Bayless/2nd round pick.

Not saying it was the wrong move.

To miss on picks in the top 3 and in the top 10 in 5 years with no ECF or Finals appearance to show for it makes it a failure.

The pinnacle of Embiid’s Sixers success is the 2nd rd.

Bar kinda low I dunno…
