Don’t let it consume you. They’re all misguided.

The LaMelo fan club only sees the fancy passes and made fadeaway 3s and just ignores the crap shooting percentage, turnovers, laughable defense and general immaturity.

I've wanted to trade LaMelo for years now. :ohwell:

Optics would be terrible considering he's their best draft pick since Baron Davis. Yeah Hornets have sucked and don't have any discernible culture with Mike at the helm, missing on most their draft picks, and hiring and firing coaches every couple years (should've never let Borrego go).

But I like what Charles Lee is attempting to do. The execution tho  He's been coaching on good to great teams for the last 10 years. That **** LaMelo did would get him benched in a heartbeat in MIL or BOS but it ain't that simple when you don't have the talent around him to do that.

CLT was supposed to take Knecht at 6. It was on sports radio and the blogs for months. I don't know wtf they were doing on draft night.

I and many others were ecstatic when he fell to #17. Almost makes up for JHS last year. Almost

Kncecht was awesome in college. Probably should’ve gone late lotto.

Was also irregularly old for pretty much any draft prospect ever due to Covid years/transfers/etc.

Feel like it’s tough to knock teams too much for choosing guys that are like 4-5 years younger than him though that also have promise. Especially teams that are rebuilding.

Obviously an incredible fit getting to play off Bron/AD.

Kobe was fresh off 3 straight finals appearances and back To back chips right before Bron said **** this I’m going to south beach to team up with 2 all stars. And he did it with his number 2 in Pau averaging 18 & 10. Kobe easily top 5. Top 2 to me behind Mike. The hate be making y’all say the wildest **** after what usually be decent takes.

Anyway moving on,

I never understood the logic of NBA teams prioritizing youth over production .

Wouldn’t you want someone ready to go who has a proven track record vs. a raw unknown one day might be as good as the former?

And you get them on a rookie contract which is even better, you get more of their productive years for cheap vs. a player who you might have to send to the gleague for a bit and by the time they show potential to contribute you have to sign them to a more expensive contract.

I get it’s possible for the younger player to maybe one day be better but you’re rolling the dice. It doesn’t always work out.

So would you take Knecht over Reed Sheppard? Castle? McCain?

Betting on youth is generally the optimal strategy.
All the draft stat models show that college performance at younger ages is more predictive than performances at older ages.

Knecht is an outlier
probably because he had a super late growth spurt, going from 6'1 to 6'6 in JUCO is pretty crazy. Teams prob should have taken this into account.

but in general all things being equal historically you are better off betting on the young raw guy with tools, than the older prospect.

In Knecht’s particular case, you also have a 23 year old making his resume by playing against people that are significantly younger than him and much less developed.

His size, shooting ability, and athleticism is what it is though and should at least give you a viable role player, which is great in the 2nd half of the lotto and beyond.
