The Official NBA Season Thread

My old man take: Lamelo should have been suspended for a game on top of the fine. The NBA operates the WNBA, and does a lot of work with the LGBTQ community, and many of its players are gay (Sue Bird, one of the GOATs, who is part of the Storm ownership group now, as a high profile example). The NBA participates in the NYC Pride Parade every year. You can't have an NBA player of any stature dropping homophobic slang in a postgame interview. It's childish and unacceptable.

The season is early. Rockets are doing well so far.

But is there ANY ideal playoff matchup for this team as currently constructed?

I can't confidently say we'd beat anyone in a 7 game series that in the top 10 right now.

The West is a bloodbath. Playoff series are a different beast, especially for inexperienced teams. We saw it with OKC last year. They had home court, and still lost a Game 7. The Knicks also got worked by the Pacers in a Game 7. Securing home court in the first round provides an advantage, but no guarantees.

Edit: Two series, in back to back years, that prove how experience helps, 2011 and 2012 Finals.

2011: Dallas didn't have home court in the WCSF, WCF and Finals. But, they had a motivated Dirk, plus Jason Kidd, Tyson Chandler, Jason Terry, Shawn Marion, etc. on their last runs with tons of playoff experience. They worked the Lakers in a sweep, then beat OKC in the WCF 4-1 (Dirk had a game where he went 24/24 from the line because they couldn't defend him). They beat Miami in 6 games, and it was because all the role guys came through. Terry literally hit a dagger in front of LeBron.

2012: Miami comes back and LeBron has the game of his life in Boston in the ECF, down 3-2. OKC takes Game 1 of the Finals, and the first four games were close, and it probably should have been 2-2. Then, Mike Miller rolls in and hits a bunch of threes in Game 5, and it's over.

As long as Jalen Green is there that team's upside is limited.

Playoff games so often come down to a guy being able to get a bucket when everything breaks down. I’m not sure who that guy will be for the Rockets. Should be Green, but I have my doubts he’s there yet.

Had a bad game in New Orleans on Friday, flew to UFC in NYC last night, flew to Memphis for tonight's game to only play even worst. Unserious. :lol

Itd be different if he was coming off that amazing playoff run two years ago. He’s looked washed for several months.

Malone gotta have a talk

The shield got Beyonce at halftime for ravens/texans. The 6ers/C’s viewership numbers gonna look crazy 🥴
