The Official NBA Season Thread

Despite playing in a small market, still kind of surprising to me that SGA hasn’t developed more star power, considering how good he is. He’s got the attributes to be very marketable, except maybe for not having an above-the-rim game.

Example of what playing in a Big Market can do to one's perception of a player.

Went to Blazers-Spurs Friday night. Here's a lengthy recap that none of you asked for (but I never go to NBA games due to David Stern, so I love to have hot takes from the rare ones I get to see):

1-A. Seats were AMAZING. Fifth row, under the basket (home bench end). Only cost me $120, and got access to that special bar and bathrooms underneath the tunnel that only exist in Stefon SNL sketches. The couple sitting next to me said they hadn't paid for their season tix in ten years due to resale profits during the Dame years. They can't make every game (they're in their 70s), and give most of their tix away to family and friends now, and don't make any money off the tix anymore, as there is no re-sale value now. They were awesome to hang out with, as I had a single seat on the aisle and I was alone. Also, one dude sitting in front of me was awesome to chat with.

1-B. NBA fans are the best people to have random chats with, especially if you're rocking a Shawn Kemp jersey (more on that in a bit). The people there love the NBA, and when I mention that I don't have an NBA team, they often say "we don't have an NFL, MLB or NHL team", and they go to Seattle for those experiences. It puts things in perspective. I love the NBA, and don't care about the other three.

2. The Game. Good lord, that first half was the worst basketball I've seen in my life. Portland needed a buzzer beater three to crack 40 points at half.

3. Wemby. Oof, this was bad. His stat line looks okay on paper (28-7-7), but it was so underwhelming that I had to find out if there was a new term that ranks below "underwhelming" in the dictionary. It was BAD. Like, to the point even Blazers fans were annoyed, many of whom showed up to see him in person after he; sat out last year's game.

First of all, STOP SHOOTING SO MANY EFFING THREES. He was launching transition threes, and even did a one-legged three for no reason. My dude, you are 10 feet tall. Consider playing around the rim for once. Just try it! Nobody will hate you for it! The few times he actually entered the lane, he got fouled. WEIRD! He did hit all of his crunch time free throws, though, so you cannot foul him in crunch time. I will give him that. Congrats!

Here's the brutal reality about Wemby (right now), coming from someone who watched a game from the baseline tonight and rarely saw him enter the lane: he's a wimp. Yeah, I said it. He talks a big game about being competitive and all that, but he wants no business in any post/physical play, and he couldn't even finish around the rim tonight. Why? Because Clingan scared him. The Blazers played their best when Clingan was in, and Wemby couldn't do anything against him. Chauncey Billups blew the entire game by benching Clingan the last eight minutes. I was sitting RIGHT there. Clingan got sent to the end of the bench, and I said to my seat neighbor, "why?" And the 12-point lead evaporated immediately. I know Clingan can't play many minutes due to injury, but geez. The Blazers season ticket holders watched that lead fall apart, and they all want Chauncey fired. These are ticket holders from the Jail Blazers days. The Spurs might suck, but they have size and length, and Chauncey's closing lineup was tiny and got destroyed inside.

4. My 1990 Shawn Kemp jersey still slaps. I had so many people chat me up about the Sonics, even walking around downtown Portland. There was another dude in a GP jersey from 1991, so we chatted for a minute. He was with his son, and said "my son will be a Sonics fan when they come back, but I want him to know NBA ball".

Edit for #5: Chris Paul had his sixth career ejection. It was hilarious. He really didn't want to participate in the game and got two techs in the first quarter. He was really annoyed after one play, got his first tech after, and just dared the refs to eject him. They were, like, "we gotchu".

And that's with the Lakers. Count out how many coaches he's had in his career on just 4 teams, on 1 hand. You can't. Count out how many lived out their contracts and walked on their own volition. You can't. Count how many survived a year.

Only coach he tried to get fired in his career and failed was Spo. And that's cuz Pat saw through the smoke and mirrors. Bron is a bait and switch. Nothing more. Snake oil.

Name an elite coach he’s had that deserved to keep their jobs besides Ty Lue & Spo?Which neither got fired on his watch.

Paul Silas(rip) he really don’t even count
Mike Brown got fired after he left
David Blatt

Y’all sound dumb af

There aren't as many 'elite' coaches as you think. Good players can make a coaches career. And then, how many were actually given a chance to coach? Bron has said on numerous occasions with numerous coaches, ' Coach called this, I said nah, and did this'

You can cape for your boy, but be honest.

Blatt was an excellent coach over seas, won a chip in Isreal I believe..

Mike Brown has been a down of a coach the last handful of years. Probably had it in him, but with your mans constantly undermining him and yall calling him Mr. potato head, your vision was cloudy.

How do you coach a guy that doesn't want to be coached and thinks he know everything already?

God forbid One of greatest basketball minds we ever seen overruled his coach on play he thought was better.

Israel ain’t the NBA and didn’t your boy Kobe get Mike Brown fired?

why are you bringing up kobe? die on your bron hill cold and alone. this convo has nothing to do with bean.

Pretty sure most of the Cavs at the time hated Blatt (arrogant) and he wasn't cut out for the NBA.
I think there was the issue that he wanted them to practice and go over game plans, and the nba doesn't do that anymore. And he was fresh off a chip overseas, probably felt the status compared to coaching a bunch of dudes that never won anything besides LBJ. I was probably like, guys I know what works, and they were sensitive and projecting their arrogance onto him. He just seemed like a regular coach.

He was hired for a rebuild then Bron signed, so it was a completely different job than he one he was hired for. He didn't keep players accountable and the offense wasn't liked.

The GOAT should vouch for his coach no matter what… again. He’s going to circumvent the coach no matter what, because he’s that great. But dude is never to blame when things go downhill. It’s always the coaches or supporting casts fault with LeBron :lol :rollin

This man just took a midseason break with no explanation :rollin::rollin
