The Official Netflix Thread Tho: Recommend Streaming Movies

Velvet Buzzsaw was turrible. First hour was extremely slow and the build up was not worth it. The deaths were almost laughably bad. I was close to turning it off about 30 minutes before it ended. 2/8.

I thought Velvet Buzzsaw was cool. I was more into the direction and the visuals than anything, though.

The art was surprisingly good.

Russian Doll is cool. 6 episodes in, probably going to finish today.

That bad? Dang. Still gonna check it out but I was hoping it would be good. I'm a Jake-stan.

Just finished Abducted In Plain Sight. Yo B must've been blackmailing the parents. He was ******* them both. He was going to expose them to their small town LDS community, that's why they were so complicit.

Oh and aliens!?!?

This looks like it could be very good...

'Narcos' Director Jose Padilha Tackling Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Movie 'Dead or Alive' for Netflix (Exclusive)

It's a period drama, it's an origin story, it's a no-holds-barred MMA showdown.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu will get its origin story told by José Padilha, the filmmaker behind the police thriller Elite Squad and Netflix’s crime drama Narcos.

Padilha will direct Dead or Alive, which is being made by Netflix, and will write the script with Peter Maguire. Padilha will also produce the period feature with Greg Silverman and his Stampede banner.

Dead or Alive centers on two men, Mitsuyo Maeda and Rickson Gracie, as the story tells an epic tale that stretches from 1800s-era Japan to present-day U.S. and Japan as it focuses on two men from vastly different worlds who developed and spread a mixed martial art that became known as Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Maeda was a sort of martial arts ambassador who traveled from Japan to the Americas to showcase the fighting art, arriving in Brazil via a circus in 1914. At one demonstration he met Carlos Gracie, with the two becoming master and student. Gracie later taught his brothers, eventually creating a family dynasty of MMA practitioners and champions that lasts to this day. Rickson Gracie, Carlos Gracie's nephew, is a now-retired fighter who won numerous champions and is an inductee to the MMA Hall of Fame.

"This is a film with universal appeal with remarkable real-life characters,” Silverman said in a statement. “Rickson Gracie is one of the greatest fighters of all time and we are honored to share his story.”

He added, “I have been an admirer of José’s for years, and we are honored he has chosen Stampede to collaborate with on Dead or Alive, and to share it with Netflix’s global audience.”

Padilha is the Brazilian director who found international acclaim with his Elite Squad movies. He helmed the 2014 remake of Robocop before going on to being an executive producer and director of Narcos, the gritty and acclaimed true-life drug cartel crime drama made by Netflix.

The deal for Dead or Alive deepens Padilha’s ties to Netflix as he is also the co-creator of the streamer’s Brazilian political crime drama O Mecanismo, which is set to launch its second season.

Padilha is repped by CAA, Anonymous and Cowan Debaets. Maguire is with Lynn Pleshette and Michael Cendejas at the Lynn Pleshette Agency. Silverman is repped by CAA.

After listening to all the negative on Polar and Buzzsaw decide to check out the Mossad documentary. It is on the Israeli secret service, I watched 2 episodes and would of watched more except it got late.

You know the guys they interviewed have some STORIES to share. However the ones they did were entertaining.

So so so so bad. Jake had a great performance but it was a complete waste and didn’t help the enjoyment of the film. Save your time trust me

Watched Polar, came off like they gave the John Wick script to a bunch of horny college smokers. It was cool just had a bit too many silly parts of the story

Starting Punisher and the final episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy

I had to stop kimmy. It was getting super corny. Started corny but had funny moments . now just pure corny.

I watched Nappily Ever After with the wife, I knew where the movie was going off the break. I did enjoy seeing Sanaa Lathan topless in the shower. Man. :smh: When the movie first starts with her she is wearing a semi see-through lingerie top where you see the areola outline. I was trying HARD to channel my inner Superman and call on x-ray vision.

My girl's been talking about that movie and I've been avoiding it for months.

I'm gonna suggest we watch it this weekend.:nerd::lol:

Russian Doll was dope.
I never realized how annoyed by Natash Lyonne I was until this. My has my taste in women changed since American Pie.

Show was dope, though. Wish the tone was a bit more serious, but the last three or so episodes definitely cranked it up.

Cool show. I'd be down for another season with a different storyline/characters.
