THE OFFICIAL NIKE KOBE FOOTWEAR THREAD: RIP LEGEND 1978-2020. MAMBA FOREVER | 8-24-24

I think Kobe himself mentioned they weren't going to do the traditional retro. I figure we'd see the Kobe 1 updated with flyknit, etc as the AD 1.
I hope not. We don't need Nike ruining more older shoes by "updating" them.

so...because of the fact I'm sending them back anyways for a new pair...I figured why not test drive these. Hooped in them yesterday for a few hours. Loved them. That broken rubber sole wasn't even noticeable, thank goodness. I love the shoe. I did change the insole though, dont need the logo rubbing off before i send them back lol. Put in a kobe X insole that I had lying around. Perfect sole for these imo. In fact this shoe is about as comfortable as the Kobe X all star, which is in my top 5 favorite hoop shoes in terms of comfort and performance. Not sure if it was because the shoe was broken in already lol or what, but it was really like a driving your whip after that initial 1500 miles. Joints just were ready to go from tip off. Probably gonna hoop in them again today and then send them back tomorrow lol

Easy pass on the black/whites for me. I just don't like the color blocking they went with. But I do love the A.D. I hope they play around more with the combinations. I love the iridescent heel cup. Soooo fire. Feels like an All Star colorway imo. Hella fire for a first release.
this is crazy, the reviews are all over the place. Guess im gonna have to just try out a pair. Starting to wonder if easy returns are actually hurting companies since a lot of people end up returning shoes before they get fully broken in (Hardens as well). They're gonna have to start making more bball shoes with less break in time. Makes me respect D Lillard even a little more.

I'm not sure what sie you are but it looks like the more positive reviews are coming fromthe mid to large size, i.e. the 11s and up. This 11.5 feels great to me. But yea, you def have to see for yourself. Even if you just go to the store and try it on and walk around in it for a bit to get a general feel.

Picked up the black/white pair going to test drive these out and see how they go.

Seems like its a hit or miss based on recent reviews

Just going to wait for the (rumored) Elite version.  Hopefully the cushioning and materials on them will be vastly improved compared to these.  If there is no Elites, no harm.

That zoom air deconstruction NightWing showed is a disgrace by Nike. Wow, pretty much lying to customers.

For those who don't watch the video, Nike basically moulded the TPU to look like a big zoom bag is in there when in reality it's just one of those little sh***y zoom bags..

Yes, the ADs aren't getting stellar reviews.

But Nike isn't lying to consumers.

No where in description did it say there was Max Zoom Air in the AD.  Also, as noted in the breakdown picture below, anyone with a keen eye would have noticed the heel zoom encased in the TPU.

Yes, making those threads on the lateral side of the midsole is misleading, but again... Nike never said it was visible zoom.

Nike didn't lie about where the heel Zoom Air bag is located.  When these shoes were announced on NDC, they put up a deconstructed "layered" depiction of the shoe.  It is still on the site and shows exactly where the air bag is.   Take a look here:  http://www.nike.com/us/en_us/c/basketball/kobe-ad

This shoe isn't worth $160....especially when the KD9 is $150 and I'm sure it's more comfortable. Nike is a disgrace.

I hadn't seen those images before, but I guess that's fair enough if it was shown before. I thought they had the same zoom set up as the 10s which were one of my favourite Kobes to play in. Just think it's a bit sneaky to mould the TPU in a way where it looks like there is a big old zoom bag.

When I first saw these in person. I noticed the outlines for the zoom bag. Like the 10s,I put pressure with my thumbs to force the bag to collapse. You could see the fibers....I tried it on this model and I couldn't see it. Right then and there I was upset. But I'll cop a pair on sale.

I agree, and the KD 9 discounts are abundant out there, but I do feel like the KD 9 is meant to be a shoe that's compromised a small bit of function for comfort (maybe Bentley?). Kobe has always gone more for that LaFerrari vibe where it's only good at one thing, but it might be the best in the world at it.

Now at $100 for KD 9s...

Not sure why everyone's trippin. I'm 6'3", 225. I wore my mine all day on Christmas & half the day the next day & then put on my XI's. The A.D. is much more comfortable IMO. My local gym is closed so I haven't played in then yet but just based on the fit they remind me of the VI, which I was able to play in straight outta the box; not like my X's which took months for me to break in.

Lol at anyone would think the zoom bag would be the size of the tpu piece. Zoom are meant to be compact for fast response. Like the Nike description said it's a Zoom Air unit and that's what it is. It didn't state it'll be the size of the tpu piece. The illustration showed the guts of it all. The tpu piece is just an exaggeration for design purpose to look decent with the midsole height is my guess.

The lunarlon, they "micro tuned" (per Nike description) it I guess after complaints of it bottoming out so quickly in the past so it's stiffer than usual.

Nowadays some people don't read/think on their own and mostly rely on video reviews to purchase or not instead of buying and test it out on their own.

I don't have any pain on the side of my foot but I do wear thick socks. The only problem I had with the grey pair where there was discomfort on the ankle area because of the seam was further out which rubbed my ankle is gone after getting a pair where the seams are aligned together.

Other than that I like this model and it fits my needs and specifications. If it doesn't work for you then get a different shoe/brand or wait for the next year or Elite with Flyknit or whatever.

The chuuuchest of chuuuch!

People are in here sounding like those Apple fanboys that like to go in Android articles & start flame wars about a product that they have no interest in.

Try the shoe out. If it works, get it. If it doesn't, move on.

Why? His word isn't golden. So what if he reviews shoes?! Based on how the A.D. works for me, his review is incorrect so it's just a matter of opinion.

A lot of kids respect his performance reviews... so even though Nike isn't going bankrupt because of him it still doesn't mean they're not losing potential buyers.

^i don't think a youtube review is going to kill a 30 billion dollar company . Most people buy for the looks and name anyways

Like I said, I know Nike isn't going to to go bankrupt because of his reviews but a lot of people trust his performance reviews. Yes, a lot of people buy these newer performance basketball shoes to wear casually and probably don't care about how they preform on court BUT the Consumers who actually subscribe to his channel and watch his reviews do so to get his insight on how these shoes perform on court. Nike and other shoe brands know this and that's why they seed him shoes and invite him to launch events.

Think about it like a car review in Car&Driver magazine... no, a negative review won't bankrupt a the car company... but it would veer some people away from buying that particular model and look for an alternative.... now will this negative review stop car manufacturers from seeding Car&Driver vehicles to test? No...

I agree with this above.  I don't think this shoe is a $160 shoe either.  This, along with the 11 EMs should have been at the $120-$130 price point.  This is a shoe that could have come out 7 or 8 years ago.  It almost seems as if there are two teams working 'Kobes.'  The A team did the 9s and 11s, and the B team did the 10s and these ADs.

People that get upset when others criticize a product they like are so weird to me.

The ones who defend companies due to the amount of product they sell are even weirder. Thats actually a reason to demand better,  not let them off tne hook.

Dudes are in here like " I dont see why anyone is complaining, I wore them for half a day casually on xmas and haven't put them on court yet"
laugh.gif

Or you get the guys " if they are good enough for (insert player name) I highly doubt they aren't good enough for you"

Thats just flawed thinking as well.

These dudes have unlimited pairs they are paid to take.

They buy ferrarris that break down and need service every 2 days, they live the disposable lavish life.

The kid who needs a shoe to grip a dusty floor and not break for a season is who should be concerned.

People who want value for their money can also rightly be concerned.

Hell the entire point of this website is to discuss how you feel about product.

This aint the kobe ad appreciation thread....the more opinions the merrier

This behavior is common, some people just get offended when you knock their purchase.
