goes to show how advanced cellphones are today, not only is the imaging really good & getting better but there are also pretty good applications available to edit them! those are solid images! i've been reading up a lil' on the history of street photography & photography in general, its really interesting how fast technology is moving & changing how we interact with images

Zone focused, off the hip. I must say, zone focusing is challenging, but very fun.

I love shooting in this area, and it's even better when coachella is happening. Not alot of photo editing done. The skies stay blue for you.

forgive for my naiveté, but zone focusing + shooting from the hip = easier??? it would seem like it should be, in practice anyways, aren't you pre-setting aperture, iso, & shutter speed for sharpness within a certain 'zone' somewhat not worrying too much about composition in service of getting the shot, so when you 'shoot from the hip' everything will be focus within that preset range?

Yes, everything is preset. The only thing you're judging is how far your subject will be in front of you for it to be sharp. There is a distance scale on the lens, but it's really hard to judge quickly when you're walking towards them and they're walking past you. I could have it set to the same distance and wait for subjects to hit that, but when I'm walking around with a toddler, it's hard to keep an eye out
I'm definitely going to try again though.

My first real composited image using PS. Was walking around yesterday evening and saw a bunch of birds flying over the water. Took like 20 shots and placed them all into 1 shot.

ahhhh, i see how that'd be a challenge! street photography is really intimidating (as much as enjoy making pictures, i'd rather blend in and not be noticed and sometimes holding a camera up to your face can lead to some interesting interactions...) so learning about zone focusing was appealing but i found it took much of the challenge/enjoyment out of the act of composing & capturing images for me, plus after reviewing the images i'd get i found i didn't quite get what i thought i did (and the sneakiness of this method just makes me feel weird about it), more frustrating than anything else...
though i still pretty much take my camera everywhere with me, lately i've just been going out late night/earl mornings getting pics, its wild how a city can feel like a totally different place depending on the time of day:

you mean when using zone focusing? yea, for the most part...there were quite a few times where the available light would change and result in an image/areas in images being over/under exposed-granted most of which could have been because i'm still new at this and not thinking enough about some things while thinking too much about others, as well as the camera not being straight and getting oddly angled pics narrowly missing things or cropping out things when straightened...
the thing that kinda bugged me out about using this method to shoot people was that after reviewing many of the images, i found many people looking directly @ my camera anyway! #captainobviousamatuerphotographer
