The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Just curious, why Nikon specifically? I personally shoot with a D3200 but if I could do it over again I think I'd probably go with a mirrorless system. I think the smaller form factor would encourage me to take the camera around more and take more pictures. I'm not at all unhappy with my D3200, I just think a mirrorless would be more suitable for me.

I just switched to mirrorless and I also came from a D3200. That's one of the reasons I switched. The 3200 is still small and light to full frame but once I read up on mirrorless and learned more on it I made the switch.

i'm looking to pick up a camera just to shoot daily things such as portraits, food, etc. I'm looking at the Fuji X-T1. The last camera I had was years ago, which was a Nikon D3100.

Where would be the cheapest place to buy this camera?

Good choice :pimp:

They're running a promo right now so you can get a decent deal on any of the major places, Amaazon, B&H, etc.

If you're open to buying used, take a look at the buy/sell on dpreview. They're constantly being put up on there with lenses included for pretty good prices.

Here's one with a 27mm 2.8 for $900 http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3933101#forum-post-56866848

More car pics on my blog.

^^^^I can do January as well. Would be ideal after the holidays anyways. Let's do it then!

When I was doing more for The Hundreds, I was going to ask if anyone wanted to do a Bay Area NT meet up and shoot some photos. The reason why I never did it is cause I didn't think it made a good story nor did I want it to just be a collection of photos posted on a blog. But maybe I can do an article in the future and kind of relive that idea. Talk about the NT community and just how it breeds hobbies such as shooting photos to (of course) collecting sneakers.

I've been interested in doing meetups for a while. Always cool to work with others.

I'd be down for a NT meetup during the summer when I'm back in the Bay or somethin.

Don't go up to SF much tbh but been meaning to check out Muir Woods and Mt Tam.

i'm of the mind that unless the plan is to make photography a profession, mirrorless is probably the better choice for those that want to get into photography (not that one can't do professional work with mirrorless, just that mirrorless can have something of a premium to do so in terms of lenses, effort, accessories, etc.), i think people just getting into cameras underrate how much size the size can affect how much you shoot, its basically the reason people don't really rock with point & shoots (compared to smartphones) anymore. it isn't that dslrs are crazy huge, but that many mirrorless cameras can be so small, and it can be the difference between deciding whether or not to take the camera with you on the regular...

if you're comfortable with it, i'd definitely peruse your local craigslist ads; also while not having the native lens selection but as good or better in terms of output are the sony nex/alpha series, and the samsung nx series

thanks! i'll definitely look into that used one you posted. I don't mind buying used at all and that seems like a really good deal!

One of my old managers asked me to photograph his engagement photos, pretty honored.

I haven't shot in so long, I'll have to brush up. Luckily I got about 2 months!

^^^^^You'll be cool dude. Shoot on aperture priority. Let the camera do the rest and just edit the rest.

I am taking a speedilte class tomorrow at Canon. Found some class for like $50 and it's like a block from work. Apparently it's a 3 hour course where they teach you the real basics of speedlites. Something I really need to learn.

damn...hella missed that chatter about the choppa!!!

I'm most definitely down for any SF/Bay folks that are wanting to do the helicopter thing.

This was from Sunday...missed the waves crashing over the wall, so only got this...

Any NY dudes want to chip in for that NYonAir chopper ride around the city? I've been wanting to do that for so long.

Nothing is set in stone yet. I just think we have to wait till after the holidays. Hopefully the rain doesn't kick in yet cause I'd want some clear skies at least.

I've got one, can't remember the exact model but it's a Joby. Works pretty well for a table top tripod but to be honest I primarily use it with my GoPro.

Thanks for the input. Didn't even think about using it with a GoPro, most likely gonna cop now lol

Looking to start Vlogging and doing some decent photos.
Would you recommend Canon G7X , Sony A6000 or Sony RX100M III ? All roughly the same price , just looking for best bang for buck
