I guess things don't look good for that Type-1 sequel :{

Most people I talk to about Type-0 refused to play $60 for a remastered PSP game, even if it did include the demo for FF XV.

Yeah, the main criticisms from NA polls were "I'm interested in XV but not going to pay $60 for a demo", "Type-0 is a PSP game, I'm not paying $60 for a PSP game." and also "I'm not interested in Japanese styled games. I want something with more western character tropes and designs (less anime)"

You know what they gotta fix?

When the "screenshot taken" icon stays on the screen too long and if you take another quick screen the icon is on the pic.

I feel like drawing conclusions from this release alone and making decisions based off of it is extreme. SE had better give us a full effort before making any sort of decision, rather than repackaging an old game.

I agree. I honestly thought it would pull 300-350k NA with the positive press for both Type-0 and the XV demo. Sadly the knee jerk reaction with a public company is to do whatever it takes to quickly placate the shareholders and ensure profits.

The rumblings have been that Type-1 will end up being reduced to a portable game rather than a full scale PS4 game, which it had the potential to be. Had it hit the goal of 500k (global) it wouldn't be a discussion. The eventual price drop will help recoup money but it may backfire if they don't chose to include the XV demo when the price drops (This was the original business model).

XV will be getting another demo later this year (of the same area) after feedback is taken and and issues are addressed. Whether or not it's only for people who purchased Type-0 is yet to be determined. There still may be some looming value for those who purchased the day 1 edition.

Square Enix should collab with Funimation and Bones to create a Fullmetal Alchemist RPG.

That anime is based in the Western World and there's not too much "animey" about it.

Besides the art style.

1mil sold.

Day one.

Just curious but do you guys think Type-0 alone was worth $60?

Type-1 on the Vita would still be a day one cop for me but obviously I'd prefer a full scale PS4 game.

Of that amount sold, Xbox must have been responsible for like 10 copies. I'm not sure why SE keeps putting FF games on Xbox, they don't sell well.

Well in the UK I think the first week split was around 70ish-30( 70ish% PS4 of course). Since the ratios of the Uk console sales are close to that of the US( the consoles are fairly close in sales), I'm guessing that same split would be close for here

Edit: split was 78-22( 20k sold first week)

Not sure how anyone can defend a game from 2011 being re-released now for $60 honestly (hell even if it wasn't a PSP game).  It's also pretty ridiculous to assume that a remastered PSP game from 4 years ago would sell the same as a brand new full PS4 game.

Type-0 did 214K in first week sales for NA, with only 45% sell through.

Couple that with just 93k in Japan and it's just :x :{

Do you mean 45% of 214K or 214K was the sell through?

The original release on PSP sold over 800K alone in Japan though.

I was expecting less in Japan for a full priced remaster on a console/

As for the US, it's being a stacked month so I wasn't expecting high sales either. First week sales were decent in the UK but it didn't have no legs cuz of the other games this month.

After playing Type-0, if they can pull that off on a PSP, then I have no doubt that a Type-1 for PS4 will do well.

I can't objectively say if it was worth $60... to me it was, but I got close to 40 hours out of it.

When did Square-Enix stop leading in the genre and start worrying about what average consumers want? I feel like they used to do such a great job of TELLING consumers what they wanted and delivered great games.

Now every move is so calculated. If you want to go the consumer pleasing road, do it. If you want to be innovative, do it. Just stop dipping your toes in so many ponds. Pick a lane and be confident in it.

Being a Final Fantasy fan has become looking at other games, seeing what SE will take from each, then watching sales numbers to see if the coagulation was successful.

Eh, who knows. Maybe They know exactly what they are doing. I just feel like they have had alot more mis-steps than successes recently.

I think if you're looking for that specific full blown Japaense JRPG experience Atlus has that market on lock. If you're looking for anime type characters and tropes along with classic and evolving JRPG gameplay they have everything you need in their catalog.

JRPG's are still a niche market. Some may debate that because of how well FF XIII sold but you have to remember that it was the first FF on a new console after a 3 year wait and a huge leap in gaming technology. And with it's shortcomings, it left a bad taste in veterans of the franchise as well as people who were playing FF for the very first time. The proof is in the diminishing returns on sales of the abortions that are the sequels.

SE hasn't had a fundamental vision for FF in 10 years. They have sat around being a tweener in the industry by not going into full JRPG territory but have also done enough to turn non JRPG fans off to their games. Everyone knows that tweeners are not stand outs.

If JRPGs are going to flourish here in NA and break out of the niche market they will need to push something provocative to bring in new fans without alienating their core audience. It's a hell of a thing to do to transcend that barrier with any genre but to do it for a genre that focuses on player engagement for 40+ hours, it's a monumental task.

I don't know who is going to do that but someone needs to step up and get it done or else fans of the genre will be stuck with remasters of old games and recycled mechanics, storytelling, and art for the future.

^ to Hybrids point, I think FFXV is a step in that right direction. As somebody who's pretty much turned off from the traditional Jrpg( strange because I love anime and Pokemon) FFXV looks legitimately good and I wouldn't mind playing that type of game for 30 hours where I would go insane playing type zero for any prolonged period of time with that horrible camera and motion blur
