Gran Turismo Sport preview - the most exciting racing game of 2016?
Our initial impressions with Polyphony Digital's ambitious new game

You only need take a brief glance at the screen shots in this article to realise that GT Sport is a very pretty game, but then you’d expect nothing less.

Since Gran Turismo started, the series has been edging closer and closer towards photorealism. Here, its come pretty close. GT always adopted a more muted colour scheme than Forza which has until this point played against it. Now with the vastly complex and expertly crafted car models, it simply results in things looking more realistic.

GT Sport will feature 137 of what Polyphony Digital calls ‘Super Premium’ cars. That is, those that have had their interiors and exteriors fully rendered down to the minute detail. We drove a MY17 GT-R, which matched the real thing like for like, as did the Golf GTI and R8 LMS.

Sound

Finally, after a multitude of disappointments, Gran Turismo appears to have sorted its audio out. It might peg itself as the ‘real driving simulator’, but having a Le Mans car that sounds like a hairdryer doesn’t really do justice to that title.

While playing the preview we made sure to drive cars that we’d actually driven in real life. The Golf GTI was close to the real thing, but the GT-R was absolutely bang on. Gone is that strange flat drone that Gran Turismo used to love so much, instead the GT-R’s twin-turbo V6 actually sounded like the real thing. That slightly digital tyre squeal has also gone. It does need more volume though and that irritating background music has to go.

I'm finally going to play Journey.

FYI if you buy the PS3 version for $5 you can download on ps4.

Wow. The latter chapters of UC4 has been quite frustrating for me on Crushing. Specifically end of Ch. 18 & 20. Starting 21 later tonight.
It's quite satisfying, if one is able to actually finish tough parts on Crushing. Have totally enjoyed the experience thus far.
If anyone needs tips on specific parts on Crushing, if stuck, just tag me & put it in a spoiler.
I died so many times on some parts, i was able to create some good strategies. :lol

I'm sure these won't add to the backlog.

I can hear some improvements, but it's still lacking 'character'... the pops & bangs from the exhaust, the judder from the transmission, etc...

I dunno... I need more assurances from gamer sites!

I dated a girl who played my games when I wasn't home and she stumbled upon Journey and loved it. She bought the soundtrack and choreographed a dance to one of the songs and performed it at The University of Utah in front of a sold out theatre for an event the school of dance was doing.

It was :eek

super late on both

but i just played the witcher 3 and until dawn.

thoroughly impressed with both.

witcher is like a streamlined RPG that isn't TOO dumbed down

until dawn is a pretty refreshing concept (although not a NEW concept per se)

i usually dont mess with games of the watch and press buttons nature, but i'm just finishing my first playthrough and its pretty tight

Journey,

One of the only games I double dipped on.
Still haven't played it on PS4 though but 1080p/60fps.

I will make time once the backlog dips a bit but definitely recommended for everyone.

I've been reading some impressions from some of the guys at GT planet who went to the event.

Here's a couple but there's more.

Thanks for those... I've been mainly reading comments from the Vids/Pics & Sounds threads, so hadn't seen those.

"I was speaking to @SlipZtrEm via PM last night and both of us expressed concerns regarding the weird movement from the streams, this seems to be an issue with the code being used in the spectator mode, as its certainly has nothing to do with the actual handling of the cars and is not present at all in the replays from single player races or time trials"

This was an interesting comment...

sounds weird. I always remembered the skating physics. but now that comment has me thinking maybe it was spectator mode i remember this happening in.

and they still pushing this photo mode on us like its new. Did anybody use this feature i probably used it once.

Im still not sold as of yet. still looks like GT6 with minor refinements. I would like to see better damage system maybe a special controller for the game like forza had that force feedback in the triggers. Im not the type of racer to play with one of those expensive steering wheels. I would also like to see some drag racing online and race for pink slips or a betting system like a derby. Other GT they had go carts, nascar, indy, rally, snow etc but no drag racing game mode or cars. Also maybe some more detail and physics with the tires and road. Not just race, sport, casual and soft hard etc because once they go red they all act the same way the car cant turn anymore.

I can go on and on about GT but its been a long time since a racing game had me hype. Drive club was fun but it was incomplete to me.

Yeah, when driving in previous GT's, it definitely didn't feel as "skatey"... And I only noticed it more in online races... dunno if there's a correlation.

But I used Photomode a lot!  Really enjoyed it.  For a while, I spammed the GT thread with pics!

And while GT is ultimately a racing/driving game, I think Kaz is spending a bit too much time/focus on it.  It's a nice feature to have, for sure.
