The RETRO Gaming Thread!

Hopefully SoR5 doesn't take forever to release.

I also read that they're doing a show on it. Netflix if I'm not mistaken.

one of my favorite games all time. Rented it from blockbuster and instantly fell in love.

Thanks for this post

Did anyone pre-order the nba jam arcade 1up cabinet? Considering doing it at bestbuy.com
Got my eye on this but price is too high.

I think there’s a lot of buyers remorse with the 1up cabinets. They are super cool, but take up so much space, more expensive then a current gen console bundle, and the enjoyment factor fades quickly.

I’ll roll the dice and see if I can scoop one for the low from someone who didn’t use theirs much.

Been a minute since I posted a gamecube pickup. COVID has spiked prices, competition seems too fierce: I cant find good deals, and the remaining games I’m after cost an arm and a leg. Trying to figure out if these prices are here to stay or will come down when the COVID scare is over.

I got this right before the lockdowns started-

Yea, I don't think they are worth it at all, especially for those that are cool with playing those games in "other ways."

Not worth it TO ME, but I know some folks like collecting items and that is perfectly fine.

Streets of Rage 4.

Anyone get it yet?

I haven't played it yet. It has been downloaded though. ( Bend_The_Knee Bend_The_Knee SOR4 )

Bend_The_Knee Bend_The_Knee DCAllAfrican DCAllAfrican I played and finished SoR 4 with my brother and some other friends the weekend before this one. Short game, took us about 3 hours to beat and the enemy HP scales up with more players.

Some thoughts on this one as a die hard Bare Knuckles/SoR 1-3 fan, it's a solid 7/10 game and should probably be a $19.99 title due to its short length and overall lack of content. Genuinely surprised they couldn't have included more characters and content right off the bat, maybe some type of paid DLC? :smh::smh::smh:

The scoring mechanics have changed so you don't necessarily get points for just finishing off enemies but you get points for 'juggling' them and performing combos. The game was quite tough with 4 players but not SoR 3 tough - on some of the later stages 3 of us died and one person had to fight the stage boss (who got easier due to the other cats dying).

Anyways the game plays almost as a successor to BK/SoR 2 so some of the fight mechanics like running, rolling up/down, stars leveling your run attacks are missing from BK/SoR 3 which I felt was a huge let-down. I think SoR 3 gets a bad rap due to its ridiculous difficulty but BK 3 is a far superior game and those mechanics should have been included. There were a few instances where at least being able to roll up and down would've come in handy. Weapons were also kind of lacking in this game too.

If you'll can get the game on some type of discount go for it - my brother picked up a digital copy and I have physical copy on route purely on nostalgia but we agreed the game could've been cheaper in its present state.

The developers of Streets of Rage 4 did an AMA on Reddit last week and said they will be adding more content in the future.

Thats cool my G, hopefully we get some of those missing moves from BK/SoR 3. I honestly don't know how the roll up/down was missed. I believe it was in BK/SoR 2 but it's a while since I last played that.

Shame it's short.

I have only played about half hour of it so far.

I know the previous ones were short as well but I would have thought there would be more in this one.

Hopefully the content they release is worth it.

Yeah not even gonna lie about the other games being long either - it's just that I've played a few brawlers/beat 'em ups since the mid-90s and they could've added some type of leveling up game mechanics.

On the content, I'll try not to spoil it but there are 'assets' already in the game that can be used as new characters. Game's a solid party game, especially if you have players that are familiar with its history. We better not have to pay for this DLC. :smh: :smh: :smh:
