This play actually probably wouldn't even be flagged today. QB was a runner during the collision...defender didn't lead with his helmet nor did he hit the QB in the helmet. This was just as solid of a "hit stick" as you're ever going to see.
Edit: grainny *** film...had to watch it 8 times to see the crown of the defenders helmet make contact with the qb's facemask.
