the thread about nothing...

I'm completely done with Christmas shopping and I didn't use any black Friday or Cyber Monday "deals." I actually shopped smart planned ahead a budgeted this year. Found some great deals and didn't put everything off until the last minute. My only fear is that I'm done a month before hand is that I don't keep seeing stuff I want to buy for people and still buying more.

Administration at my job seems to be personally offended that I never attend holiday parties with the other department heads. Maybe they’re justified in feeling that way, but I spend enough damn time with these people as is, the restaurants they choose are trash and are in the opposite direction of where I live, and the timing is very inconvenient with the schedule I work.

Oh well, they’re not gonna fire me and I’ve reached the end of the road with promotions at this job so the consequences are basically nonexistent.

I'm so glad Im not in that type situation. Idk if Im just sociable or everyone at my job is cool but showing up, showing face, pregamming and dipping has never been a problem. I think a lot of people just want to pretend like they're better than something, tho.

I've always loved getting together for work functions, but there may be 2 factors regarding why

1. I've always worked at jobs that never have work functions. 😂
Been at my current job almost 2.5 years, and we've gotten together 3 times. The first time was organized by me after being there 4 months, Thanksgiving 2022.
Aaaaand the 3rd time was also organized by me, last week, Thanksgiving. 😂

2. I didn't grow up with family. I'm not saying "Work family is my family", because this isn't a Lifetime movie and that's just ridiculous. I'm just saying that I bet there's a connection between people who grew up with at least some sense of familial structure in their life and having an aversion to work functions.

And on the topic, there's something else worth mentioning: people that don't want to go, just don't go. It's really not that big of a deal, and obviously nothing wrong with that. :)

I say that because when I sent out the email a couple weeks ago to see if anyone would want to have a staff Thanksgiving party and who would be able to bring what, obviously I included the whole team.
Well, we have these 2 curmudgeons on our team, always screaming for kids to get off their lawns.
I went out on a call with one of them last Monday and I think he forgot that I'm the one who sent the email out. While we were out on the call, someone responded to the email chain saying that they were bringing something and so both of us checked our work phones because we heard the email notification. He reads it and goes "I just can't wait for this stupid party to be over so we can stop getting thes annoying updates on who's bringing what."
I just said "Oh you haven't just taken your name off of the email thread?"
He goes "No, because I shouldn't have to. I don't know why I was included in this stupid **** to begin with."

Like, if you don't want to go, that's totally fine. Nothing wrong with that.
Don't go away mad.
Just... go away.
😂

I go to work functions and kick it with two of the owners at my job.

Owner’s sister is a good friend and I’ve known them for a decade.

One of the guys rides dirt bikes so I ride with him the other likes good food so we go out to eat with our families. None of it is awkward and I knew them before I worked for them.

When I work for big companies you’ll never see me at them.

It’s construction so the work functions are a **** show, they aren’t bad. Just gather around and watch the idiots drink too much.

If you gonna actually feed me feed me and have a quality event where I don't have to be in the same place I just clocked out from I'm in but not some bring the family to the job and we'll have hamburgers and hot dogs and cornhole or some potluck **** where I cant be a judge of the quality control.

I always think of one or 2 major things for the people I buy for and get those early or when they are best priced or if I know they will be hard to find later in the month. Once those are out of the way then I can get smaller stuff here and there and it's no stress. I'm pretty much done.
