The Timepiece Thread vol: READ THE 1st POST!!!

I've flipped about 4 speedy Reduced's over the last year. Great watch. No way you should be paying over $1,200 for a good example.
Check watchrecon as a ton of sellers throw them up there. Some folks balk at eBay, and I do for higher end pieces but you'll find a gem if you look. Snagged two speedys for about $800 from regular folks who just wanted to sell it.

Speaking of Speedmasters... just picked up my first -the Hesalite Moonwatch. I was planning to pick it up next week when I'll be overseas, but the local AD gave me a good deal on this -gives me more time to enjoy the holidays, now. :lol Initailly considered the FOIS, but the 40mm size was a tad on the small size for my wrist (among other cons that I just can't ignore). Surprised to find a steel bracelet enjoyable as well (more into leather/rubber straps/and the occasional NATO). Definitely loving it so far. :hat

EDIT: Also picked this up fairly recently as well as an alternate daily wear from the Hamilton and the Seikos...

I've never owned a watch with chronograph, I'll start with something cheap to see how I like it. That speed master is beautiful though.

Me neither, since mechanical chronographs tend to be housed in thick cases. Got to love the symmetry of the design of the dial. Definitely staring at it more than I should than just checking the time :lol

Fellas, I need some opinions. I found a omega speedmaster reduced at Tourneu for $2,500 in amazing shape. They claim that the watch has been fully serviced and comes with their in-house 2 year warranty. On top of that, they have a holiday discount of 10%.

On the other hand, I found a trusted seller on ebay selling the same watch for $1700. The watch has not been serviced and it does not come with any warranty. The watch's accuracy is -2sec/day. What's a better deal in your opinion? By the way, Ebay offers this warranty for $60.

Unless you have a trusted watchmaker handy, I'd go for the serviced one that has the warranty for $2,250.

Thoughts on Nomos watches?

one of the better German watchmakers out there and could usually be had at a more reasonable price

they have a nice simple design too while still being distinct

Where do you recommend looking? Seems like most of the watches are only available through Nomos' website. I think I spotted a couple on display at the Tourneau in South Coast, but that can't be the best place to buy it, can it?

Yup, they are an authorized dealer.

If you want to buy from an AD in person, check out their official retailers at: http://www.nomos-glashuette.com/nc/en/services/customer-service/retailer-locator/

Like Bhindi in Glendale is an AD along with Feldmar in LA. These will likely give you a discount in comparison to Tourneau.

But other than that, the typical grey market like Jomashop is perfectly fine place to purchase: http://www.jomashop.com/nomos-watches.html

I believe Watchbuys is an official online retailer too, I believe it is the main source for Sinn watches (or mostly German watches) but you will rarely get a discount from there: http://www.watchbuys.com/store/pc/nomoswatches.asp
