The Timepiece Thread vol: READ THE 1st POST!!!

Not strictly true regarding a downgrade imo, more a situation of something gained, something taken away.

The new models have arguably slightly better bracelet, fully lumed bezel, domed crystal.

First review already live

I have a soft spot for steel/titanium bezels so I quite like the grey version, aesthetically. The Nekton edition is my favorite 300M because of it.

Though I’m really not a fan of the mesh bracelet. I tried on the NTTD a while back and didn’t like the feel on wrist at all. I do like a rubber bracelet though and am glad to see Omega offering that option here.

eh, more was taken away than gained and price is still higher

first the date movement, at the end of the day, movement with a date just cost more and have extra mechanical function

ceramic is more expensive than stainless steel, yes its more brittle but its scratch-proof but at the end of the day, it cost more to make

bracelet might be better but its harder to fit because its kind of clunky but even in the rubber strap, which is the same that is used on the regular SMP, still cost more

and a domed crystal isnt really better, it gets more reflection plus some distortion in some angles and its more prone to getting cracked as its easier to hit it with the raised crystal

regular SMP already have a fully lumed bezel

you are pretty much paying the james bond tax and getting less for the buck

In your opinion more was taken away than gained. I may even agree with you but not everyone is going to feel the same.

From what you've said it seems you're talking about material value and functionality but as you know watches are not valued this way. I mean a solid gold Rolex is still worth less than a Nautilus which offers less functionally than a Seiko SKX 007 in a lot of areas. It's subjective

I don't like a date on my watches for the most part so I would value a dateless option higher aesthetically. There are some who would value a lumed aluminium bezel higher ceramic bezel, a domed crystal over a flat one (just see what the speedmaster fans say about the 2nd fois). Now although the sum of these parts may feel like a downgrade to you there are some who may be willing pay more for the aesthetic value of the sum of these parts.

The standard 300m diver does not have a lumed bezel, this watch is part of that family. The NTTD, 60th Anniversary and heritage are the seamasters that have a lumed bezel. Aesthetic cues were taken from the bond and other recent models (Nekton) but there is no 007 branding on this watch so I don't where the "bond tax" would be coming from especially as the NTTD is still readily available. If you mean by having a former bond actor showcase the watch. Daniel Craig is probably their highest profile ambassador currently I can't see a direct correlation between his involvement and pricing.

It's all opinion at the end of the day.

i mean i dont like the date function either and would take it over a watch with one but i wouldnt pay extra for it, like the sub for example

and you cant really compare what one brand offers over the other then compare prices, thats simply not a fair comparison  come on now, patek vs seiko? :rofl:if this is going to be an argument here then i am simply gon’ tap out now

thats why i am comparing within omega, within the same line and they are milking because they know people will pay for it, i am absolutely not arguing that but me and plenty of others simply wont and it is not lost on me that its easier for me to say that because i wont be able to wear it as it stayed at 42mm

but its not limited to omega, piaget for example, been wanting a smaller polo however the 36mm polo cost more than the 42mm and its even crazier than the omega because its really just a shrunken version - zenith did the same with the defy skyline, they shrunk it to 36mm and removed the high beat sub dial (which was the watches/movements -the subdial moving fast as a novelty- selling point to begin with) and charged more, they have since changed the pricing and increased it on the bigger version but they were nuts they did it in t \he first place

and if you cant see the correlation between this watch and bond then i dont know what to tell you  thats like ignoring omega and their involvement with space/moon and how omega will never let you forget about it  thats as crazy as even mentioning seiko and patek in the same sentence

and of course its all subjective and all about personal preference, i am not arguing otherwise but we are discussing why “I” think they cost more by giving less and many view it the same way, i have been dying for a smaller SMP but if they charge me $1k more over the 42mm guise then its likely an easy pass for me (until i can get 30% off disco then id probably find it justified and get one  )

im no watch snob, i probably have the most quartz watches here that cost more than $100 so im also just a dude full of contradictions

I hear what you're saying.

I think we could go back and forth on this but to be honest with you neither of us are getting closer to our perfect seamaster.

Omega continues to disappoint.

The titanium just looks like a yacht master knock off now. Not really a fan of omega’s design on these.

Look what I just picked up

I’m thinking of getting the wife a better watch. I love my Cartier Tank XL.

Thinking about matching with the Tank (they only have a quartz for the ladies.)

Or

The Tudor Royal

Any feedback on the Tudor?

Ladies love the panthere if y’all want to check that out

I got suckered into buying the green tank must just casually browsing. And dude was like I have that for you as I know you love the color green and it’s available in the boutiques

For what it's worth. I was offered a Sub last week but passed. I wouldn't consider myself a returning or new customer with the AD. I dropped my polar and cracked it in the summer so I took it my local AD for the repair. She asked what I was interested, and I told her my top 3 preferences. I told her I want a GMT so we will see what happens in the "future" lol.

for womens watch, you cant go wrong with cartier, go with the cartier panthere or tank or even the americaine, all of them have a mini version now as well, though only in precious metal outside of the panthere

but let me offer something that I think she might like even more, the cartier bagnoire

not even gon, lie, id wear the hell out of this  if it were in white gold

IMG_6494.jpeg

thats the mini, i got to try on the small and it actually looks too big to me and i feel like the smaller on works better

IMG_6491.jpeg

theres a few limited editions of the mini bagnoire coming out soon too, i like the one with the black dial

heres a pic of the tank louis in mini which i think is a tad too small but women might love it, to be honest at this size, it felt and looked like a toy

Baignoire will probably be the next watch I get my wife. Unless she wants to swap out her ss panthere for yg

got to try on the new seamaster

very nice watch but still borderline too big the ribber strap helps but still an easy pass, at 38mm, 39mm… even 40mm and it would have been a homerun

i think its practically sold out at the store though so people do like em, they didnt have the other variants including with the bracelet

IMG_6891.jpeg

got to try and inge a few weeks back before my vacation and its nice, just not nice enough for the price

hate that the boutiques still pretending these things arent sitting but hey, theyre not getting my $$$

what i really like though is the oris pro-pilot x, love the fit and overall look and the clasp looks cool, i also think its a bit too much at retail of $4600 but it can be had for about 40% off at jomashop and for that price, its very tempting

The new SMP is a beautiful overall watch. Just wish it had more variety to it.

Been toying with the idea of a lower end watch lately to wear with short sleeves in the spring/summer since I don’t want to wear my sub to work and out casually.

Thinking maybe a Junghans Max Bill Bauhaus or a Farer since their dials are cool (but the watch overall is probably mid and I can’t try one on anywhere).

Any recs for something casual under $2,000?

Would be rotating it out with my Longines Spirit and blue AT so I don’t mind something green, white or silver to break things up.

Oris pointer date has always been a favorite of mine too. Also love vintage Seamasters but hate the idea of a repainted dial.

New SMP looking really good on the rubber strap but like you said, would’ve been perfect at a 39mm.

I also dig the Oris Pro Pilot but agree with MSRP being way too high. The lasered dial is super cool tho, had a chance to try it at NYC Windup a few weeks back. I really like the way the colors burst at certain angles.

Honestly with a Spirit and AT already… you’re set for those occasions. Two great watches.

If you’re looking for green, I’d recommend the classic Seiko Alpinist (spb121, or sarb017 if you want the old school version). It’s well under the $2k mark (can be had under $700 new) but has a charm that is indescribable.

The Oris Pointer Date is also a great shout. I personally like the Caliber 403 with the small seconds and perfect sizing at 38mm, but that’s gonna be over $2k because of the in-house movement. If you like the feel of a 40mm, there’s a ton of colors and options that are available for under $2k though.

has anyone sold their first watch? any regrets?
My first watch (and currently only watch) is a Tissot Le Locle so it's not like I'd get any worthwhile value out of it
I generally hold on to things like that, like my old yugioh cards, my signed football kits etc. I'd never even consider selling them.

I did pick up a second watch today actually. It's a limited edition Tissot with a custom hand painted dial.
I went to grab the link and it's already sold out, sheesh. It hasn't even been released a full 24 hours.

I originally really wanted this one but it sold out like instantly.

ive never sold a single watch

mostly i just dont want to deal with the hassle and didnt want to deal it like when i used to resell some shoes especially since watches are bigger $$$

but i dont think ill ever sell my first watch unless i just completely lose interest in watches, its a tag carrer chrono that i only got when i was in college and macys was offering 24 months no interest if i open a card and i got approved so i took one home, back then i believe i got 20% off too

I bought a couple of Tissots before I got into watches years ago that I sold since I wasn’t into them currently. But I don’t foresee myself selling my Longines at all. Definitely need a new strap for my Spirit though. Hate the one it came with.
