It's not changing with the new ownership either.  We have never seen Wenger this mad so that means he really believed this was the team to get silverware.  Especially after he actually tried to win the Carling Cup.  Maybe just maybe he realizes that his way won't work completely and he will need to add to the squad.  I think its time for Fab to go and of course get rid of Rosicky, Denilson and Eboue.  Use that money and the reported 40 mill to buy experienced quality winners.  We need some older players because none of these guys have won any trophies.  Only RVP and Clichy have they are not really the epitome of winners.

Why is Arsene so reluctant on spending? It's not like it comes out of his paycheck...

BTW...1 win out of our last 8...lets also not forget this same team lost several times at home earlier in the season to newly promoted clubs. This team was never good enough to win the Premiership title...the real reason they were so close this season is because Man Utd are not as strong as in previous seasons so they dropped a lot of points and because Chelsea had some serious mid-season struggles. If this was any other season Arsenal would've been out of the race in February or March. Come next season Man Utd will likely be better and we know that Chelsea and City will make some changes this summer to improve their teams. Then you have a club like Liverpool that should be stronger in the coming seasons with their new ownership.

Meanwhile, expect maybe a few Arsenal bums to be shipped out...i.e. Almunia, Denilson, Rosicky, maybe Squillaci and a few others. Expect a couple of youngsters to be promoted to the senior side...i.e. Landsbury and Ramsey. Maybe a guy like Bendtner is sold for a decent fee. The club is going to make Nasri a very rich man and I cant seem Clichy leaving what is an all but guaranteed starting spot on Arsenal even though he doesnt deserve to start for us. A fight for 4th place awaits us in 2012.

Initially the club prioritized paying off its stadium and property development debt after they moved to the Emirates. Wenger was given limited funds so he opted to stick with his philosophy of youth development and cheap buys. To be fair to him, this philosophy was tremendously successful when he first arrived to the club but as we all know the Premiership has completely changed since around 2005. Man Utd have remained big spenders while you also have the likes of Chelsea, City and Liverpool spending tremendous amounts of money trying to win. When Arsenal moved to the Emirates Wenger said that he was embarking on a 5-year journey with the club where he should not be judged until the 5th year of the project (2009/10 season). Well, this is year 6 of the 5-year project and yet again we failed to win a trophy and Wenger's recent announcement that he does not expect to spend much money this summer makes it appear that the club will go a 7th year without winning a trophy.

IMO, the blame lies with both ownership and Wenger. I dont blame them for trying to pay off the debt (the club is currently in an amazing financial situation) but at the same time the board has not shown a willingness to spend big money on quality players. The only time they did so was in January 2009 when they spent a club record transfer fee on Arshavin because they risked finishing outside of the top 4 that season. The board also decided to absorb the money obtained when they sold Toure and Adebayor for 40m pounds and spend it towards paying off the debt. On the other hand, Wenger has done a good job of keeping the club competitive over the last 6-years with limited resources but at the same time he's been too emotionally attached to players that simply arent good enough (Almunia, Clichy, Bendtner, Diaby, Denilson, Rosicky, etc) and he's even wasted some of it on poor players like Squillaci. It's hard to say if Wenger is reluctant to spend or if he's simply not being offered enough money to spend but its pretty clear that the club are unwilling to spend more money to seriously compete for trophies.

Getting rid of all of those players you don't think Wenger will be forced to buy people?  My fear is that he keeps most of the bums.  Almunia is gone and maybe one other and he stands pat again.  Talking about how young the team is.  This team currently constructed aint winning a EPL or Champions League.  You can never count out FA Cup or Carling because its a cup competition and you can have an easy road to a semi based on upsets and your draw.  The chances are slim in that as well though.

I honestly don't think he really had the money to spend despite what he says. If the board wanted him to spend he would imo I think it is a PR move to appease the fans and make us believe, but I feel like his hands are tied with the board wanting to pay down the stadium debt instead.I think the pressure is really on now especially given the string if results and how stressed he's been on the touchline, I think today and the most likely loss to you guys next week, will make him spend on someone(s) to help right away. He'd get a lot more sleep at night with a solid back line at the club. His reacting shoes that he's losing faith in some of these players.
