I also would not let my son play tackle football. Fortunately, I don’t have to worry about because sports aren’t his thing anyway.

I played two years of high school football - my Freshman and Sophomore years. Just in that time, I remember a couple times I saw double after going head up with someone when making a block and another time after a big hit, I couldn’t smell anything for a while. That was weird. I can only imagine how much damage is done from having stuff like that happen to your repeatedly for years with even more force.

The amount of toxic masculinity that it essentially endorses combined with the tangible physical long term effects of playing the sport has me thinking it won’t last much longer relatively speaking

MMA just as dangerous.

Boxing been proved that trauma to the head over a long period of time, causes damage.

We take risks in life everyday. Something as small as driving a car or motorcycle can jeopardize your life.

My kid gone play football.

I rather my kid play football, or box, then sit on his phone or tablet all day. Or play video games all day. All things are relevant.

I think there’s stats to back your feeling up. I recall it being documented that less kids are playing football and that an increasing number of American high schools have cancelled their football programs.

That said, there’s so much money produced by the sport, especially with legalized gambling expanding, that the powers-that-be are likely going to do whatever they can to keep it around and thriving.

Honestly I’d be happier if my son died in a high school football game than if he lived to be 80 playing video games. You have to take chances in life.
