I don’t know that I can remember another player who had fan perception of him swing as widely during his career as KD.

Summer of 2010, when he was on a national pick-up tour, getting buckets at the Rucker, he was the People’s Champ/anti-Bron. Now he’s a villain for a lot of people and/or not given his due for how good he is.

I totally understand it, but it’s still a pretty wild thing when you think about it.

Yea around the time he won MVP and had that speech he was pretty beloved generally.

He definitely sacrificed a lot of goodwill linking up with the dubs the same way Bron became the heel in the sports world after he went to Miami.

He's still one of the greatest to ever do it and would be in any era, IMO, but I don't know if he'll ever reach that level of public love and support as he did during those OKC years now or at least not until he's long retired

Irked him that my boy went back home and bought a chip to his city
should’ve done that for the wizards
Truth is anything or anyone that stops Lebron
y’all rock with!

How Much Longer Do KD and CP3 Get A Pass? (Rings) | NikeTalk

are gonna pretend Jordan wasn't in the league for one year, a rookie another, and hurt for the other?

He wasn't the best player during those years period. He wasn't better than Magic the latter half of the decade either.

CP3 is very underrated imo and doesn’t get the love he deserves.
Honestly one of the greats when it comes to PG's but his on court persona definitely clouds peoples perceptions of his greatness. That + his postseason record.

Had the CP trade gone through to the Lakers, I think his legacy would be a lot different after potentially winning with Kobe. That season he got passed up for MVP behind Kobe is one of the best individual PG seasons I can remember

If KD can win in BKN, or anywhere else, I think it’ll shift the narrative.

Isiah is such a slimy politician.
Yea I've always believed there has to be a good reason why none of the dudes on the dream team ever spoke up for him or backed him publicly , not even his own coach was able to convince folks he belonged.

Only legend you really ever hear praise him like that or talk him up is Magic who's like the nicest dude ever in general

People giving him heat now because of the Last Dance, but Isiah been kind of Teflon in his post-playing career considering how God-awful he was running the Knicks and that he killed the Continental Basketball Association.

Yea winning a chip in NY would definitely move the needle a bit but not sure if he'll ever get the same consensus type level of adoration he once had.

A chip in BK would probably bring him in top 5 All-Time discussion territory though imo

Magic also went through a good decade of hating him. I feel like they only reconciled in like the 5 years or so.

So that would make someone else the baddest in the world at that time then no?

He wasn't the best player during those years period. He wasn't better than Magic the latter half of the decade either.

there should be footnotes regarding those facts. that's like bragging about saying X is the best player during a span when Jordan was a Wizard and Kobe was a young Frobe.

So u telling me MJ wasn’t the best in the game until 1991?

I know this is hard for you Bron fans to understand since y'all tried to do the same for him in the 2000s but; if somebody else is winning all the MVPs getting to all the finals and winning them then that player(s) were the best in the league at the time. That was Moses, Larry then Magic in the 80s. Jordan owned the 90s except for those 2 years where Hakeem ate. Shaq, Duncan and Bean were the 2000s. And Bron was the man most of the 2010s (but other guys Steph, KD and Kawhi) ate the latter half of the decade.
