Well regarding LeBron, you just hope the GM doesn't do as poor of a job the first 7 years of his career

Shaq and MJ only needed one other elite guy and they were good. Same with Bean. Bron played GM twice and still got smoked. KD well he shouldn't even be in the discussion given what he did to win.

Yeah I won't disagree too much with you here because we both agree it's Michael

But yeah I don't think Durant should be in the discussion for the one guy you'd start your team with. He's down at least one tier

If you are going to bring up those Bron years, should we not bring up how Jordan’s teams were getting eviscerated in the mid-late 80s and how he was unable to win without the best wing in the league as his teammate?

You certainly can :lol I’m not stopping you from
Making the case lmao I personally value what happened in the finals more and like I said, it’s the low points from bron that sting a little more

Shaq I get. KD? Nah. And even with Bron you need 2 other elite players around him (at least that's been the blueprint so far).

Yeah, I disagree with this. 2014 KD, Bron’s reign in the East, they’re clearly good enough to build a contender at their peaks with competent pieces surrounding them and again all things being equal. Same age, same gm, etc. I prefer what Bron and KD are to what Jordan was.

KD kind of shaky but the 6’11 3 level elite scorer, good passer and functionally great defender I’m goin with

Fair. For me it's Lebby or Jordan only reasonable options

After that Shaq, Duncan and maybe some others. KD can be included in there too

To BUILD around....

Duncan
Shaq
Bron
Steph
Kobe
KD

Outside of Jordan....I think those guys....in that order for one franchise will yield you a great chance at winning...for various reasons.

We can’t discount the level of consistency and how malleable Tim Duncan is as a franchise guy. Overall...there are a couple of models/mentality to winning.

I think the two extremes are the LeBron Model & The Tim Duncan model. The players I mentioned fall in between those spectrums.

It is not. Prime Shaq, Bron, KD.

Those are guys I’ve seen so I’m admitting bias. But I’m a vacuum, with all things being equal, I’d take those guys to build a winner around before I’d take Jordan. For different reasons, I think it would be easier to build a winner with their prototypes than Jordan’s.

convince me that prime shaq would still be prime shaq in today's game without the illegal defense rules

It was only a matter of time before

PERIMETER BIAS

But hey if you have MJ #1 then I can't really argue the rest. It's debatable as hell

KD over Jordan I just can't go there. I get that the idea of him is great but when we're talking the #1 overall pick I have to split hairs. Which means you look at what he actually accomplished and beyond the numbers. LeBron even before Michael has him beat at both if we're being honest

7’1 super athlete at like 320. Surround him with some competent shooting, and another shot creator and we rolling. He was a good enough passer to make it work

If you build around Kobe, you can't convince me your "SOLE" goal as a GM is to win.

Nah.

That's my man but nah.

Contending and winning are 2 different concepts. For as great as KD was in the regular season in 2014 they lost to SA in the conference finals.

Gimme Jordan and one other elite guy and issa wrap.

Bron with 2 of em and its still up in the air.

KD had one in Russ and then went to GS.

There's a much longer list of players that can put you in contention.

How so? Kobe, Wade. Pippen.

What do you mean by this?
Of everyone listed, he is the absolute last choice for me to want to build my team around.

I don't even think he should be in the discussion forreal. I don't think he really elevated his teammates to the level those others do/did. Not even close.

But I will leave it alone because I am not sure people will be morally honest with this topic due to the circumstances.
