I agree with your points but at the same time, what more do you want NBA players to do in the Bubble or even as a hypothetical alternative? If they were to protest and stay at home, their collective efforts would likely bear similar results. They would have the time to get involved other ways but there is no guarantee they would act or that their actions would be effective. Which then begs the question, are we asking a little too much of them?
Professional athletics have social influence which is invaluable but just look at how Senators such as Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley are coming at the NBA. Or the AGs who are choosing to not act in the case of these shootings. Or the Governor of Missouri talking about pardons for the couple waving guns at peaceful protesters. Or anything the President of the United States does on a daily basis.
The steps toward the change we want are less likely to come through the basketball court and more likely through the ballot box. I would be curious to hear other ideas of what professional athletes can do but IMO if we don't start to get these white supremacists out of the pant at both the state and federal level then 'Murica will keep being 'Murica. Their is certainly an intersection between the two but it's unclear to me what the NBA can reasonably do different with tangible results.
There is no hypothetical alternative. That's my point. I'm not asking ANYTHING of them because I know there's a limit to what they can do in the first place and we've reached that ceiling already. I commend the players for their efforts but I'm not about to pretend like they have some massive tangible impact on anything. I'm moreso discussing the league overall...particularly it's decision makers who are sitting in boardrooms and saying "Should we place the BLM logo at center court or along the baseline"..."Yeah...let's put group economics on these shirts...that'll be awesome.
I couldn't possibly care any less about twitter squabbles between politicians and Mark Cuban. It's merely theater for optics. None of that threatens Mark Cuban's or any other owner's bottom line...or we know they wouldn't engage. Moreygate taught us that.
