So I lost track - since the Sixers hired Doc instead of him, are any teams looking at D’Antoni now?

I’m sure he worries about such negative opinions of his coaching ability when he’s looking at his three rings and counting his money.

I want him to get another ring or two then go back in the booth and be the best color analyst in the biz again.

STRAY BULLETS

Who peed in his cheerios? What'd james harden ever do to you? All they've done is beat the rockets in the playoffs. Now they're roasting them after they just lost their coach that they wanted to return? Bullies.

totally forgot that kerr was the gm in phx briefly during dantoni last yrs in phx
Hard to forget because he’s the one who traded Matrix for a 35 year old Shaq, completely ruining what Phoenix had been doing since Nash & MDA arrived like THAT version of Shaq was the missing piece  I couldn’t believe Kerr made that deal. Was furious that he ruined the Suns.

They finally moved on from Shaq after wasting two years from Nash & Amare and immediately go back to the conference finals  I thought Kerr was absolute trash and couldn’t believe the Warriors wanted to hire another ‘90s guy who couldn’t grasp modern offense.

Then the Warriors come out in the preseason looking like they’re playing a different sport  Nothing but respect for him now

If I’m not mistaken that trade happened because Matrix wanted to get PAID

As well as he was tired of being considered the 3rd Fiddle

Matrix wanted more money and had an ego. And the Suns wanted size to match up with the Spurs and Lakers.

Based on those factors, I think it was reasonable gamble for Phoenix. And, IIRC, Shaq had his last good year as a Sun.

And wasn’t that during the period where the Suns training staff was reputed to be a bunch of miracle workers?

Nash said what cost them was listening to what other we’re saying.

instead of what doing what works in the first place .

“small ball won’t win”
“ 3’s don’t win championships”
“ playoffs is where you should slow the game down “

Not mad at moving Marion for the obvious reasons, moving him for a 36 year old 300 pound guy who still wanted the ball was the issue.

The Suns were mediocre defensively and that was never Shaq’s calling card and he wasn’t overly efficient on the block anymore.

His counting numbers weren’t even bad but it clearly came at the expense of the entire team  Shaq very clearly wasn’t that dude anymore or Miami would’ve just kept him.

Shaq asked to be traded from Miami ....

did dantoni have any say? was he gunning for a gm/coach role as well?

Shaq’s stint in Miami was pretty wild. MVP candidate the 1st year; clearly on the down side of his career in year 2 and settled into second option role, but they win the title, then they absolutely suck the next year and get rid of him. Short, but eventful. LOL.
