he's a ***** based on what though? that's nonsense. what can they possibly point a finger to as actions of his being ***** made? its because of his skin tone bro. if they think he's a *****, its because of his skin tone.

Colorism is definitely real and an issue in the community both ways but I think it's getting overstated in this discussion when it comes to Steph.

Thinking that all his mannerisms/shimmy's when he's winning and chucking up near halfcourt shots while destroying squads then tossing his mouthpiece and overall awful body language when they're facing adversity contributes to it and the frontrunner notion just as much if not more as him being light skinned IMO

He is

From a Well-To-Do Background
Frail
Light Skinned

It isn't JUST because he is light-skinned. Kenyon Martain was light and nobody thought he was a sucka. Same as MAtt Barnes. Steph's stature doesn't help his image when it comes to NOT looking like a sucka.

It isn't nonsense, that is how people's brains work.

i'm not saying you're wrong, we're in accord. I agree. I'm saying their way of thinking is nonsense. Because they can possibly rationalize thinking he's a ***** because of his upbringing, or the durability of his body, or the craziest bit, his skin tone. weak *** mindset. hating on everythng that has nothing to do with the court.

Michael Eric Dyson put it together nicely. It isn’t ONLY because Steph is “light skin”....but it’s a part of why he constantly gets discredited. Guy that looks like him, that comes from his background, that plays the way he does, that stops the guy they want to win from winning more....and changes the dynamic of basketball....This was in 2015 mind you.

It’s a unique set of circumstances to Steph. Dudes hate to have this convo....but conditioning is real. It works in a multitude of ways.

Basketball for wings and guards is pretty simple today. How good / advanced are you at passing/shooting/dribbling. Your instincts relative to these things tells you a lot about a guy's pro potential.

Cam can't shoot / score well, has no instincts as a passer, and can't dribble. The mistake that IMO folks make when evaluating prospects is assuming that these things can be dramatically fixed, and that's not the case a lot of times. Truthfully, there's no way he should even sniff top 5 but that's kind of a reflection of this draft. Like I think Culver is way better.

He's also an "Old freshman." Like, he's older than RJ and Zion by a full year. W/ average athleticism. Whoever drafts him is going to be waiting for a while. He's a project that may never pan out.

Still feel this way about Reddish.

How you guys are saying steph’s own contemporary’s don’t acknowledge his success or his game is beyond me. Where is the proof behind this?

Yea, people love to dismiss that angle whenever it is brought up. It is a hard conversation to have but it is also easy to ignore and dismiss as trivial.

You got white dudes talking about he plays a “soft”, “light skin” brand of basketball :lol

The average person will tell you Russell Westbrook is a better finisher at the rim than Steph Curry. So many misconceptions and discrediting based on perception and image. I always say....when dudes qualify
Steph and only is the “the greatest shooter ever” ....it’s a pejorative most of the time in the context they use it in. He’s one of the greatest PLAYERS ever. Greatest shooter is unsaid. You can contextualize a guy like him being a great shooter. An all time great player is always met with resistance. Generational biases and perception is baked in too.

But y’all don’t wanna talk about it.

I don't deny that colorism probably plays a part, but I think it's not nearly as big of a part as him taking the league by storm when he wasn't supposed to and essentially ****** got jealous. He got put on a pedestal that his player type "didn't deserve." It's easy to compartmentalize Bron and KD dominating. It's not as easy to come to grips with it when it's a 6'3 PG who's just running around hoisting 3's from 30. It feels gimmicky / cheap. Or at least it did initially to the general populous.

Cam Reddish can't shoot, can't dribble, is a bad athlete, has no dog,

I have no faith in him

Agree. I’ve said this exact thing 100x in this thread. And dudes came at my neck. But whatever.

That’s the part I think is most of it. Again, it’s multi layered. But you spot on with, what it is.

But I’m just making all this up tho ?.

Bruh Hes 3 games into his rookie year...this is why nobody takes your serious when you talk.

I can count on one hand the number of players who magically start hitting shots after their rookie year with this much playing time.

He cant finish, cant shoot, cant handle. He'll have 1 good game for every 7.
