hate to say it....

But I don't think the civil war was about slavery.

I disagree with the tone of the article... They're making it seem like slavery wasn't that bad...

But I fully believe if Lincoln could win the war and keep black people as slaves... Hr would have

It wasn't, and neither is the confederate flag.

Here's the thing though. Fact is, while a lot of southerners see the flag as part of their culture and still consider themselves confederates.

A lot of folks use the flag as a symbol of hate.

That's the issue.

Far as these schools go, it ain't nothing new. Hell schools in NY had BS all up in their textbook. Revisionist history.

It was 100% about slavery. The declaration to secede said it was to preserve the institution of slavery

We can wonder what Lincoln would have done is there was not a civil war, and dude was a racist himself, but the South definitely thought him being president signaled the being of the end of slavery

-And I always grade this ole white folk on a curve, being a progressive back, still makes you racist my today's standards

The south seceded because they believed that the union was eventually going to abolish slavery.

LIncoln seemed torn on the issue but the secession forced his hand. Obviously we'll never know what would have happened had the nation stayed in tact.

Gotta love when people throw in the "it wasn't about slavery" argument

Yeah, it was totally about state's rights and economic freedom

A state's rights to not have their slaves emancipated through federal mandate :smh:

And economic freedom as in preservation of the institution that allowed the South to flourish--SLAVERY

But didn't Lincoln not sign the emancipation proclamation until several months into the war? Just to get more soldiers on his side?

Lincoln's primary motivation was preserving the Union. He didn't like slavery, but if he could end the war with slavery intact, he would have done it.

The war still began over slavery

Yeah, but that has nothing to do with why the war started doe.

Like dude said, Lincoln might have been torn bout what to do, but the South forced his had. They kinda made the decision for him
