Tips on Casino Blackjack

Abide by the basic strategy chart, know when to leave the table (or just when it's time to take a ten minute break), be observant (ever see a hand play out for everyone with about 3/4 of the cards 2-8's? Up your bet the next hand, etc.,) and learn how to count. Try and find a slower dealer because it will make that process easier. Counting cards is not easy, but with complete concentration it's possible.

And don't listen to arbitrary statements like "$100 or $500" is nothing in blackjack. It's something if you think it's something. If I play and win $200 I'm thrilled.

Oh, one quick one that I'm sure most people are already aware of: don't play the "never bust" strategy. Don't take insurance bets with dealer shows an ace.

can you get kicked out of a casino for counting cards? how do they catch you? what happens, etc

So far not one person in this entire topic KNOWS what they are talking about, they think they know, but trust me they don't know crap.

There is no universal "basic strategy" for blackjack. Strategy varies significantly from Casino to Casino.

single, double, 4, 6 or 8 deck.

double after splits?

double any two cards?

rules on splitting aces?

surrender?

I can however offer some general rules

ALWAYS double 11 against anything even if the dealer is showing an ACE, if the dealer had a 10 he would have got blackjack and the hand would already be over so that means the dealer only has two real threat cards that would give him a 2 card 20 or 21 (8 or 9), when you've got 5 cards that will give you a 20 or 21 ( 9, 10, J, Q, K ) so do double down.

Double 10 vs 2-9
Double 9 vs 3-6

Always split 8's even against a 10 or A

Never buy Insurance, EVER!

Do NOT play any side bonus bets the table has to offer.

With the dealer showing 7-A you hit until you reach 17 or higher.

With the dealer showing 2-6 you hit until you you reach 12 or higher ( only exception is if you've got a 12 and the dealer is showing a 2 or 3 you should hit)

Edit:  a few more basic tips.

Always split A-A, against anything.

Never split 10's, EVER.

Do not TIP the dealer, all dealer tips go towards a large pool that gets distributed evenly amongst the dealers (even the bad ones) to prevent dealers fighting over high stake tables with bigger tips and to keep them from having an incentive to "lend a hand" to high tipping players.  Point being, your tip does not go into their pocket.

Manage your chips properly...

up the bet whenever possible, if you stay constant then the house continues to have an edge.

Don't get too greedy cause it's all about the long run. Like a boxing match, you have to learn to take some hits, and have to learn when to up your bet to cause some damage.

On a $5 dollar table, I split mostly anything depending on the dealer's undercard, double down on 8 or 9 when dealer's card is 7 or lower. There's so many cards (6 decks-96 face cards) in circulation where people get superstitious like "Oh, I never win these hands." Play the table, not the cards. If I'm on the table betting $5, you better know I'm splitting my 3s against the dealer's 7.

A $10 table is just like the $5 except there's no people jumping in and out of hands.

I prefer the $25 tables because these are the people you wanna play with. Double deck blackjack becomes more group oriented where you got to hit your 12s against the dealer's 2 or 3. Careful with your A2-6 double downs on the dealer's 2-3. This table you gotta take your hits because you don't wanna mess up the next person's potential double down/win. My biggest peeve is people who surrender 15/16 and the person next to him/her has a double. It always comes out the doubler gets the low card, and the dealer makes a hand with what would have been the doubler's card. Oh, and only insure 20s.

This is easily the best advice. Even so-called "experts" who posted earlier were quite incorrect. Also, make sure to check on if the casino allows a surrender. And I personally wouldn't play at a casino that has one of those "neverending" shoes like Treasure Island.

And SMH at whoever suggested the Martingale system

Beginners/intermediate:

-Memorize and use Basic Strategy

The way its been successful for me:

- Me vs the Dealer.
- Variation between 1 and 2 hands
- Betting nothing less than $25
- Use Doubles and splits when necessary.

Its a total L in the long run..trust me! Play poker instead.
