True Passions thread vol. What are YOU doing with your life?

I've been studying/playing poker for about 6 months now and have really immersed myself into it lol. I don't know if this is good or bad but at the moment it makes me happy and also helps pay bills.

In two weeks I start a job that pays me to live in foreign countries, learn the local language, and read the news

Basically not being bored. I hate being bored.

I recently read in a book that the opposite of 'happy' is not really 'sad' but 'boredom'...i couldn't agree more. nothing makes me happier than being excited.

Which book was it? I read about that idea in a book called "The Four Hour Workweek"... good book

That would be the book...That dude has a great philosophy on life.

I also want to get into music production and guitar. I got my MPD and Fruity Loops up and running but I haven't spent too much time on it.

This year will pretty much be all about saving, grinding, and getting out my parents house. Finances will be tight but everything will pay off if I just stay on it. I see too many people I know getting complacent or caught up and I just see what I dont want to be...

Wow you are me.
Ive always had a love for computer also. I trained myself to learn about them on my own. Programming, IT, Data entry stuff has always interested me. Right now im working for the local cable company as a tech support rep. Ive been doing it for a little over 3 years. Ive got a assoc. degree in general arts in studies and that's it. I'm kinda tired of where im at at the moment and do want a change of atmosphere. As you are, im strongly considering going back to school and for IT also.

Also like you, im already into music production. It started out as a hobby but I find myself putting more time into it and getting better at it. I wanna get to a point in my production that i could make a nice extra income off of it you know. I use an mpd also and I started out in FL but moved to reason.....

Im to the point where I just want to be secure finacially and not have to worry where the next dime is going to come from. I had a nice stash of cash when I moved out the parents crib but I decided to by a car and that bogged me down some. Its not where I want to be but I can make it work...

currently looking for work in he nonprofit sector

got tons of experience but the job market is rough right now

but for me there is no better satisfaction than getting to help others and being paid for it

well i turned 18 2 months ago and dunno what to do with my life so in on this

Dream job for real

What job would this be?

My passion is comedy
I'm not exactly sure the road to achieving my goals but I'm willing to work

This is gonna sound messed up but I don't want to die not being a famous comedian

I don't wanna live a mediocre boring life

I want the world and everything in it

Helping people seems to be my calling. Right now finishing my masters in psychology and I hope to get a job as a behavioral specialist for a school district within the year. Good to see people motivated towards their goals. Good luck everyone.

About to finish school and it feels great. After school I'm probably going on tour and interning for my roommate who is a production manager.
Been taking judo/jiu jitsu for a while. Took muay thai for a few months before I got to poor for it. Came up on some funds and in a couple weeks I think I'll move on to a straight up MMA gym.

I work as a flight nurse in one of the busiest flight program in the nation.
I love the challenge of taking care of really sick patients...and knowing that I can make a difference is something I love.

Here is a video about us...short.

I'm a designer and developer. I'm paid to think innovative and I almost never get bored. If I'm bored I know I haven't challenged myself. Once I found my calling my life just got less messy and much more focused and things just started falling into place.

hope to one day master my craft and perhaps start making REAL money at it while inspiring others.

I want to become a police officer for a city department and I'm currently on the verge of getting my BA in Criminal Justice. But I might have to consider another career because I have #%+* credit and a FTA on my record. It sucks knowing that I can't get my dream job, I just really wish that I can rewind time and manage my money a lot smarter, but i was young and dumb and fell for the credit card trap. SoRight now I'm trying to fix my credit but it's going to be a long while, i heard something like 7 years . It's a shame because i know that i would've been one fine cop . My fall back plan was to enlist in the coast guard becuz the military was always something i was interested in as well , but i can't even swim .. all bad

Thanks. I still pinch myself every now and then because I am living my dream.

Thank you very much...we in the healthcare field know that sickness has no holiday

...but you get to go home everyday to see your pride and joy! Now that's your passion, she's adorable!

I design & make clothes that I want... & hopefully that other people want too so I can continue to do so

On the side... finishing up my degree and try to get a job within the development industry.

damn... after reading some of this stuff, i feel like a terrible human being (not really)

i work in sub prime lending. while i cant say that it is my PASSION, i thoroughly enjoy what I do and love my job, my company, my coworkers, the whole environment.

technically what i do is not "lending" persay... it is leasing. when i say i do sub prime, im talking about the depths of hell type of credits. if you are coming to me for money, its because you cant get approved anywhere else. i charge an implied rate of 45%. Yes that is not a typo. Yes there are people out there willing to pay that. Not only are they willing to pay that, but they are also willing to pledge collateral (house, cars, equipment, etc...) in addition to paying my rates.

contrary to popular belief, i am very honest and upfront with every customer that i deal with. i dont try to sugar coat things or hide the fact that i am charging what i charge. all i am doing is offering a product/service and the customer can decide whether or not its for them. there is no hard sell. there is only the presentation of facts.

while i have been called a shyster, shylock, thief, loan shark, and worse... i dont believe that i am. If I had a nickel for everytime I was asked the rhetorical question "How do you people sleep at night?!?!?!" I'd be a very rich man. (hint: the answer is "I sleep very well on a bed of YOUR money"... kidding).

Well I'm in my second semester of college but I'm really not sure if I want to continue attending. My passion is acting and honestly most colleges could care less about teaching students the art of acting. My current major is communications with a track in radio tv and film. I'm hoping that maybe I can get into some film production and then eventually get myself in front of a camera. Idk though... I'm pretty freakin confused right now.

Always loved advertising as a kid. Now I'm working in that field about to work for a client that has more money than the US treasury. Can't complain
