Vince Carter to Orlando Magic

Vince is going to thrive in Van Gundy's system.

He is probably a better move than Shaq going to cleveland.

Why do you think Cleveland wanted VC?

Carter has never missed a long stretch of Games as a Net. Dude played through a horrible ankle injury and still put up 21 points in 2008 and this season he was20 5 5 while playing in 80 games (1 due to injury and 1 because the Nets season was over and they played the rookies vs the Knicks in game 82 at the garden)

Vince is going to love playing with Dwight and HE IS HOME.

He will be able to play in front of his family and friends and you do not think that will not make him more amped for the Season.

He never play half way in Jersey either. Especially the last two years. Trust me, Toronto though will not be the only place he will break hearts in in gamesnext season. (But he will not be booed in Jersey either)

^^ thanks that is the one.

And like dude jus said, there is a reason why the Spurs, Cavs, and Magic were all bidding on VC for the past week

He is gonna kill this season

I am also putting this in the Nets thread but now the plot thickens for New Jersey. From SI.COM

Are the Nets for sale? Four groups are positioned to invest in the Nets, a highly placed source in the league office confided this week.

Two other league sources told me that minority owner Vincent (Vinny) Viola is moving to buy out majority owner Bruce Ratner and take control of the franchise.Viola, the senior strategic advisor of the New York Mercantile Exchange, attended many of the Nets' workouts in preparation for this draft.

But the senior-level source named Viola as one of four potential suitors, while adding that Ratner may remain involved with the Nets and could even retainmajority status. "It's all up to negotiation," said the source, emphasizing that all the interest is based on the promise of the Nets'long-anticipated move from New Jersey to Brooklyn.

The most intriguing group of potential new investors is headed by the Russian oligarch Mikhail Prokhorov, who, until this season, was the financier of theEuroleague champion CSKA Moscow. The league source predicts that Prokhorov would survive the league's vetting process as a potential owner. Prokhorov is6-foot-9 but didn't play basketball past elementary school. He was listed by Forbes last year as the 24th-richest man in the world, and his involvementwith the Nets could lead eventually to the NBA arrival of Ettore Messina, the Italian coach who ran Prokhorov's CSKA teams.

Another potential investment group is headed by hedge-fund managers, while the fourth is drawn from the private equity field.

The potential sale of the Nets helps to explain the big move they made on draft day. They unloaded Vince Carter's remaining three years and $51 million toOrlando in exchange for three players, among whom only Courtney Lee will remain on the Nets' payroll in 2010-11 at a low rookie-scale salary of $1.4million. Their payroll going into that season couldn't be more sparse, and they still have a 26-year-old All-Star point guard in Devin Harris. CoachLawrence Frank will also be in the final year of his contract this season.

The Nets have long been rumored to be on the market. If a team is to be sold, then this often is how it's done: Remove as much furniture as possible so thenew owner can remodel the place to his liking.

The cost-cutting played a role in the draft. Instead of going for forwards James Johnson or Tyler Hansbrough as rumored, they used the No. 11 pick on TerrenceWilliams as a potential replacement at shooting guard for Carter.

I've been watching the Magic play all year. C. Lee came in and earned his starting spot, and showed flashes of being an all-star throughout the second halfof the season.

Vince is clearly the better player right now. Who knows how Lee will develop, or if he'd even stay with the Magic after his rookie contract was up. Orlandowants to win now and that's why they made the move. If they go over the tax for Hedo, they're the team to beat in the East. If not... well they'llneed to bring in some help with their MLE to fill up their bench, they need to do that anyway.

Magic fans I've talked to are disappointed to see Lee go, but are excited to get Vince in return. They're understanding that this team is going to tryto win right now, not just sit around and hope that they can make it back to the Finals.

Magic are going back to the finals. That much is certain. Sorry Cleveland fans, looka LeBron will leave after next season.

This has the potential to be a very good trade for Orlando if:

a. VC stays healthy
b. Hedo stays

Orlando already said that they'll go over the Luxury tax to keep Hedo. Man they are gonna be bananas in 2k10. lol
Otis Smith said that before trading for Carter. This morning (or last night?) he stated that it would bedifficult to re-sign Hedo.
carter >> lee
No one is debating that, but is Carter >> Lee, Hedo, and Gortat? They're better, but this isn't a big leap unless they re-signHedo.
i know none of yall will believe me becaus ethis is niketalk but hedo is in talks with none other than the CLEVELAND CAVALIERS ... ... ... ... i know keith bogans who still keeps in touch with many of his old magic teammates ... but this isnt like a deal about to be done apparently they are 12 million dollars and 3 mil per apart right now ...
That doesn't make sense. All Cleveland has to offer is the MLE so if they're 3 million per season apart, they're offering him $2-3Mper year
laugh.gif

They needed a player who can create his own shot at the end of games..
What? Both Hedo and Nelson were able to do that just fine.
magic are the best team in the L now. believe it or not, vince does a GREAT job of defending kobe for some reason. kobe always has poor shooting games when they played the nets.
They'll be the best team when they're the best team. We could make the same statement merely by stating that the Lakers couldn'thandle Nelson when they played in the regular season. In the end, play on the court will dictate the which team is the best, but I do agree that Carter willmake Kobe work on both ends of the floor in a way that no other team was able to in the playoffs.
Why do you people think Hedo is going anywhere?

Unless the Pistons overpay drastically no other team has the cap space and are willing to spend it.

A deep playoff run for a team like the Magic increases revenue by 30-45 Million.

That's more than enough to pay Hedo and Vince and the luxury tax.
Sure, but owners are looking to keep their money and paying Hedo $10M per will cost them $20M per. That $100M over a five year contract just forHedo. That's w/o re-signing Gortat or giving someone like Sheed the MLE.

Atlanta could rescind their rights to Zaza, Williams, and some other dude to have enough cap space to offer Hedo $8-10M. Portland could offer a similar deal.

That isn't likely, but if all Orlando offers is an MLE sized contract, a chance to win, and a decreased role in the offense, he may go elsewhere. Maybe hebelieves that signing with Cleveland would put them over the top. Who knows?

Safe to say Courtney Lee is this year's Rodney Stuckey. Had a few nice games in the playoffs and got everybody thinking he's going to be more than whathe really is.

Boston will be in next years finals.

@ the Tim Manaddition cementing another Finals appearance, only on nt.

I'm guessing the "Tin Man" moniker is referring to his durability which makes no sense but I just wanted to make sure.

If it's not one thing, it's something else that's wrong with VC.

"He's misses a lot of games" yet, he plays around 80 games 4 years straight.

Vince has been playing on a bad ankle the last two seasons and still managed to put up around 20,5 and 5.

Someone even said he's only a jumpshooter.
roll.gif
Vince's all-aroundgame is overlooked.

He does all of that when players like Sheed, who usually looks like he couldn't care less to even be on the court and Baron Davis, who missed more gamesthan Vince since he has entered the league are never really called out about those same things.

I didn't say games missed, I said games tapped out of.
wink.gif

Tell me how many times he came out, was gettin beat down early, and all of a sudden felt a "twinge" in his hammy or somethin? Rolled an ankle?
Then he limps around the rest of the game, can't do nothin, puts the towel over his head, and is basically done for that game.

Then next game comes and he's fine. Soon as he starts havin a bad game again, oops, another "twinge".

Tin Man brother. He's earned it.

Boston ain't goin' no where. Everyone got better and they didn't do anything and messed with Rondo's confidence.

PERFECT EXAMPLE!!!!

I liked taking Lee last year. I though he was an experienced 4 year college player that could shoot, was explosive and had a mature head on his shoulders.

That does not mean I thought he was the answer. Yes he played extremely well for a rookie all year. Thats the one misconception i want to point out. He didntreally get his playing time till Jameer got hurt. And in that time he put up great numbers and fit into the system. DOes that mean he wasnt undersized at the 2for when it counts against the Kobe's and Bron's...NO. He locked down Eddie House people Eddie House. He was a great defender but his size put him at adisadvantage for the elite 2 guards in the L right now.

The Magic are showing they dont have time to wait 2 years for him to show his full potential.

As for Turk I am thinking, that he is thinking that Vince is not an addition to the team if they resign him but yet a way to replace little parts of what Turkdid. Im a bit on the fence as of how much Turk can do for us if he isnt in the point forward slot and isnt allowed as many shots. His numbers were down fromlast year and obviously he didnt have enough to win it all or this wouldnt even be talked about. Yes he fits in but he doesnt like Van Gundy as Rafer didnt andthey clashed several times. So if thats a pattern whether my fanboy will allow me to admit it Turk looks like he doesnt really care about a ring and will gowhere the $$$$ is.

Either way im looking forward to being in the Amway family room next season!!

last note what kicks did Vince wear all season?

Keep telling yourself that. Boston - L.A. in the 09 Finals, book it.

@ this dude really defending VC. NT is pure

Well, in recent years, the whole notion of him not being a durable player is false. Why wouldn't I say something when I've watched most of his games inJersey for myself?

Actually, not many times at all.

Well I was wrong, looks like Hedo won't be back.

But from what it sounds like Hedo wasn't going to be back either way seems like a decent save.
