Like someone said earlier, don't base the move over a one week sample. Vacations are definitely different than living on a daily basis, heard that from experience.

the weather is terrible.
traffic is absolutely dog **** if you have to commute on the freeways
tv is definately frustrating if your a sports fan. Hockey takes precedence over any other sport. Like during the nhl lockout they would spend time talking about that instead of showing other sports news. I know it sounds nitpicky but the overall media just makes you feel far away from whats going on in the united states.
shipping anything outside the border is a pain, the stores in TO dont have that much selection.

you sound like the average Vancouver Grizzlies player back in the '90s.
They couldn't adjust to a country that was just across the border and speak the same language. Complaining about the weather and not having ESPN.

It's Canada, hockey is the #1 sport. That's what people want to watch and listen to.

Too many Americans don't like adjusting to different cultures and environments. My uncle from sunny @#$ Madeira, Portugal has been living in Vancouver for the past few years and loves it there.

I also want to move to Canada one day. Never had a bad time when I went and everything looks so nice there. It's Super America

i love the cold but hate the snow but maybe since they get it so much, they handle it better. snow where i live makes everyone thinks the world is ending.

american summers are way too hot for me too.

montreal in my top 5 places to visit so i need to go asap.

I LOVED Montreal when I visited in June. I don't know if I could live there, but the whole vibe of that city was amazing.

Best Parts:

-24 hour food spots, not just fast food

-No lines at the bars/clubs

-cheap bottle service

-no police

-da herb

-Gorgeous Women everywhere..legit didn't see a single ugly bartender or waitress, they are all gorgeous and that was at like 15 different bars/restaurants/clubs

-Good Subway system and public bicycle system. Also, most roads have bike lanes

-No cover charge at most places

-4AM and the streets are crowded with people just chilling, no cops though

-Casino in the city

-awesome coffee spots

-Schwartz Smoked Meat-Trust Me, one of the best sandwiches I've ever had

Worst parts

-Lack of sports coverage

-Probably is drastically different in the winter time

-Mixed drinks are measured out to 1 shot exactly, they seemed weak

- homeless/crazy people there seemed a lot crazier than the ones in the US

- Wasn't impressed by the strip clubs at all, full contact but the places were empty and girls were pretty busted

I don't know if I could live there year round, but I would love if I had an apartment there that I could frequent. I had an amazing vacation, but was happy when we got back to the US.

THIS ...only with more French people.

I'd like to visit Quebec next year in the spring, maybe stop in Montreal as well. I entered a bike contest and was gonna go but plans fell through. I'm gonna do it next year.

Man I absolutely love Madeira, such a beautiful place, I'd move there in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity

My man Steve Francis looked like his dog died when the Grizzlies picked him on draft day

In all the major cities of Canada. Vancouver probably snows the least. Think it only snowed for like a day or so this whole year.

The weather in terms of snow is much more hectic in the east. Since Calgary and Edmonton are both geographically higher in Canada, they'll definitely have snow there

Funny this thread came up. I'm from Michigan so Canada is cool with me. Ontario is actually closer to me than any other state

But after conducting research I have figured out that I could see myself living in Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, even Ottawa. I think Toronto, Edmonton, and maybeee Winnipeg would be in my second tier of where I would like to live.

I plan to go to grad school for two to three years all while working on a master plan to live in canada for the rest of my 20s at the very least. At worst I'll find me a hot Canadian wife and come back to the states haha

I want to go into Urban Planning and also Public Policy (moreso in budgeting, analytics), so I would just have to network my tail off in grad school and I think it can be done

Man. If the struggle to pay for college wasn't unreal I would plan a trip.

Montreal is dope, I'd move there if it didn't get freezing cold during the winter.  I used to drive to vancouver a lot when I lived in seattle for a bit and its got better weather.  toronto is nice too but Vancouver and toronto r like american cities but u get the culture with Montreal.  Montreal also is the heavyweight champ for beautiful women in any city of North America even over LA I gotta say.

Montreal is definitly dope. But that weather man....

been living there all my life. can not get used to it.

pretty much accurate except for some stuff.

not every women are gorgeous. we have some good ones, but i find the californian girls are better (been in california for 2 weeks).

casino is out the city. still close but not in.

Question to jjs, do you need to speak the en francais to get at these Montreal girls

Not really.

west island girl are mostly 1st langage english anyway and everybody is bilingual.

some have a hard time speaking (big accent and searching their words), but they all understand english.

^^ have heard that people in Quebec don't like it if you don't at least try to speak the French language. That they don't like you starting off with English. They would change to English for you, if they can tell that you can't speak French.

True or False. This is probably the Quebec sovereignty crowd that has created this image

i just think it was like that before.

things have changed. people will change up to english in a heartbeat if they see you can talk in french.

if you are a tourist and you can't speak french, there is no problem.

if you've been living here in a mostly french province for years and you can't speak french even just a bit, then i understand why people would get mad. I wouldn't get mad, yet i find it disappointing if you can't even have a basic conversation in french.

This is what i think from what i see and what i feel working downtown where it's 50/50 between english and french. Maybe it's not like that in reality.

I live in Seattle I use to go up to Vancouver/Whistler (to snowboard) every now an then. the city and people are pretty laid back, nice clubs as well. Wouldn't mind living up there but then its like living in Seattle but less Indians (don't mean to go there but its true. I'm Asian BTW) I dated a girl from Calgary and would fly up there almost every month and it was pretty fun. It was snowing in the middle of October though, cold as hell. If you do go there you need to go to Banff and Lake Louise one of the most beautiful place ever specially in the fall/winter time. Calgary still some what has racist going on. Can't remember what club we went to but they were denying people at the door because you couldnt have runners or your pants were baggy but it was plain to see they were turning around colored people. Never seen that in my life till i got there (mind blown). other then that and the cold weather i wouldn't mind living there for a while but not settle.

I live in Winnipeg, I visit Vancouver 3 times a year, Toronto every year or two, I've been to Montreal a couple times. With that being said Vancouver is the nicest city to live in. They have everything you'd want in a major city. Walk downtown and the beach is at the end of the street, you look up and see the mountains. They have a diverse population, everyone's laid back, the food spots are the bomb! Downsides are it rains a lot, you'll never own property, and some ppl are pretty snobby. Toronto I find the air is too polluted, Montreal if you don't speak French the locals can be real jerks lol. Also seems like overweight ppl are almost non existent in Vancouver lol everyone is so active there so it seems the quality of life is much more enjoyable

I'm seeing a lot of good points here, but at the end of the day, majority of these points have nothing to do with me wanting to move there for a better life. Hell, I wouldn't mind getting into hockey a lot more anyway. The thing that a few people mentioned that stood out the most is the fact that I shouldn't determine whether I should move there or not based on a 1 week visit. But at the same time, that's the reason why I'd like to go visit a few more times this year and in the winter.

The way things are ran here in NC and the entire US, I'd feel a lot safer in Cananda.
I want to have kids someday and not have to worry about medical bills, or being judged by the color of mine or my kids skin.
I'd like to smoke some trees without worrying about the police.
I want to go to a 24 hour Lebanese restaurant from time to time.
I want to work at a well paying job and not pay taxes for health insurance that I can't get coverage on.
