Was MJ an average athlete??

The Boston Celtics championship team of 83-84 played at a pace of 99.7.

THAT WAS 15TH BEST IN THE LEAGUE OUT OF 23 TEAMS :lol :lol :lol

THEY AVERAGED 112 POINTS PER GAME AND IT WAS THE 7TH BEST MARK IN THE LEAGUE :rollin :rollin

The Golden State warriors of today Lead the league in pace at 98.6 today :lol it was pick up game back then man.

Just to add to this, they averaged 112 points a game, while only shooting less than 3 attempts per game. That was 7th best in the league

The Golden State Warriors average 110 points per game this season, which is 1st in the league and they shoot 27 3's per game.

Let that sink in.

That good ol 80's defense boy I swear...

I agree 100% with that. I said that the other day myself about the positionless league. And not in a bad way either. Every player today besides the PGs are combo players. And even some of them are combo players. But there still isn't anything better than your traditional pass first PG like ur boy. Who doesn't get by with his speed or quickness but rather by his smarts and bball iq.

But based on what though? When's the last time a pass first PG won anything in the postseason?

what i noticed when I watched this video. Everything Bird and Nique did was in the mid range or in the post. Larry is going left handed on dudes on the post. And that **** aint luck. He played a few full games straight up left handed just cause he could. youtube it. Only 2 three pointers were made out of all those points. 1 for Nique and 1 for Bird.

Bird was a decent athlete for the standards of basketball back then. What made him special was obviously his ball skill

Was better than decent before he messed up his back and ruptured both achilles but still continued to play. Wasn't that long ago either. Best hand eye coordination. Vice grip hand Strength. Super fast hands. Great feet eye coordination. Great hustle. Great vision. His post up game was on swole. Bird 1979-1987 was prime and one of the best players in the world. If not THE BEST. 88-92 no idea how he even played having his spine out of line and two ruptured achilles much less be an all star every year.

Bird was NOT an average athlete, wtf. And all of today's bigs we're talking about - they don't play big. Duncan plays like a center. ZBo plays like a power forward. Cousins is a PF who is gifted as anyone but would have gotten demolished mentally by Hakeem/Ewing/Robinson. Blake Griffin, same story, he'd probably just take the 20 foot jumper every time. These guys aren't traditional centers. They are just tall. But I guess when the spurs have Diaw in the C position, it just shows how the game has changed. Guys like Webber, KG, Duncan weren't taking threes.

Anyway, long story short, no today's centers can't hang with the 90s/80s centers at all.

Well said. +1. Of course larry wasn't an average athlete, u can't be the best basketball player in the world(which he was at one time) and be an "average athlete"

They could. Demarcus could. Marc could. Pau could, Marcin and Nene could, Deandre could. Dwight would be slamming all on ewing.

marcin, nene, and deandre v. let ssay sabonis, vlade, and... rick smits. who are you taking? dwight today v. ewing prime...or 18 year old dwight vs ewing prime, who are you taking? then you still have shaq, hakeem, and robinson, mutombo, mourning....

it used to be a Center's league. at least for some time.

im saying the current centers would still be centers in the 90s and play well.

Dudes here act like Centers these days aren't skilled.

U had to be actually be 7 feet first of all to even be a C in the 80s. And be able to do more than dunk. Soft guys like Marc and Pau wouldn't stand a chance banging in the 80s. Guys like dwight, nene, Deandre wouldn't stand a damn chance against guys like kareem, hakeem, Sampson, Ewing, Parish, Moses Malone, Laimbeer. Not a chance. Especially with the different rules back then.

nah marc and pau and cousins would be able to hang...as power forwards... which they basically are.

nene sucks now, he's not going to be better against the big centers. howard could be a rich man's mutombo if he didn't get hurt by all those injuries. maybe deandre too as some kind of shot blocker. i'm not going to say deandre = diop but deandre could not hang with the real centers of the nba lol

its true i heard hakeem and shaq weren't 7 foot... it was just to make them seem "taller" - but they played like they were centers. no three pointers. rim protectors. unstoppable if they got anywhere near the basket. and freakishly athletic. this isn't a discussion. today's centers would play at the top of the key where power forwards hang around. but tom gugliotta > nene. shawn bradley > gortat (probably)

Hakeem wasn't 7 feet but still played Center alongside Sampson even tho Sampson was 7'4. Anthony Davis reminds me of Hakeem. He could play in any era. Hakeem was a freak.
