Well Sinister Six was going to be a villain-centric film so it was more like a soft-sequel? Spidey would be the one making the cameo in that one. There was also a solo Venom film planned which I think is still in the works along with the Sinister 6.

I thought the Sinster 6 movie was gonna be the them teaming with Spidey to save the day? Like that was one of the og stories that was thrown around as a rumor.

MTV then asks him which characters he wanted to get to in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is it had happened. "There's the man in the hat, this obscure character called The Gentleman, who gets the Sinister Six together. That would've been fun to play out," Webb said. "Venom, obviously I would've been curious to see."

It would've only made sense if the Chameleon was secretly the 2nd villain in the movie.
Actually bringing them back would be dumb though. I'd say it's dumb even if you brought in the Jackal and clones.

They had really weird plans for Gwen... At one point they talked about bringing her back as the Black Cat, another conversation was about running a Spider-Gwen franchise along with the TASM films. Stuff that wikileaks put out way after the initial sony leaks had them looking really confused

None of this has been confirmed or even further discussed since the deal went through but I think all the spin-offs have been tabled for the time being & Marvel is making them focus solely on getting this first film right.
Sinister Six is way off imo. Makes zero sense for this guy to be just starting off and for the Sinister Six to form already. Sony just needs to keep these films as simple as possible.
