Pontiacs are compatible with most GM parts...Saturns were qwerky.

Example.. A 2006-2014 generation impala wouldn't be considered modern? Or a 07 Grand Cherokee? I think there's plenty cars in the $5k range that look modern. There's 90s cars that look modern still. It's not about saving up to get a better car, I just don't want to spend more than $5k. And I wouldn't buy a car who someone is selling after just a year of ownership lol. That's car buying 101.
This. They don't even make Saturns or Pontiacs anymore. Why would you do that to yourself?
Not sure what you mean by the last sentence? You said you didn't to keep the car you got forever, I said a used "modern/nice" car would still have problems in under a year most likely. never said anything about buying a car that the seller had for under a year, which I don't see why it would matter how long the previous owner had it for if you look out for obvious signs.
What's considered modern is very subjective, I definitely don't think that impala looks modern at all IMO. Everyone I've ever known with jeeps has had nothing but problems with them, but they had wranglers, not sure about the Cherokees.
And that intrepid up there is absolutely hideous, Jesus..
People are just giving you the best option on a car that will give you the least amount of headaches for your budget.
That obviously is irrelevant to you, so just plunk down $4500 on a car that is visually appealing to you and deal with random noises and and things breaking from time to time.
You don't want car problems dog, after the headache you get from something "stylish" always breaking down you'll wonder why in the hell you wasted 5k like that.Cop something reliable & call it a day. Tryna be the man on a 5k budget don't really align.
get a jetta
I would get a more expensive one tho
unless you cop something from an auction you not getting anything I would consider reliable
I mean you can get a well equipped feature wise car in this budget. Even if not, throwing a Pioneer 7 inch screen/double din kit will cost you 2 or 3 bills now you got bluetooth, gps, hdmi, dvd, pandora/spotify/apple carplay/ xm, etc. throw in another 50 for a backup cam.
Yeah car stereo stuff has come a long way for not much more money. You gotta figure a cell phone does all that for about that price now. It's that cheap for all that now??

I dont think there are many reliable motors that can take abuse like the 2jz in the Lexus IS and GS from the early 2000s or maybe the acura TL or TSX. I wouldnt even consider buying much else without some maintenance documentation.
I think the consensus on Nike is dont buy american or expensive high end German. If you find a clean low end German such as a VW Golf / Jetta or Volvo make sure its in good shape and set some money aside. I dont know if it was mentioned but y33 infinitis and older G35s aren't bad buys.
Still No Better beater coupes than the Integra, RSX, SC300, Legend Coupe.
Good luck to you OP
I was just in this same position up until yesterday
I actually had a civic, rsx, tsx and an infiniti i30
parts on these older cars are a fool
I wound up copping a fully loaded Jetta for 14k but was close to getting a is 250 but it was false advertised
If I went up a few more grand, the IS is what I'd get. The wife doesn't like it cause it's small tho
I've been researching for months
but in general you're not gonna get a quality car for less than bout 8k and even that's pushing it
you looking at atleast 12k for anything that'll last that also looks decent
also you have to follow the is maintenance history very close cause there were recalls on em and most will be close to 100k in miles
just speaking from what I've seen, trust me I've been stressed over the last few weeks
I still look at cars off muscle memory
I'm on my second one. I could get a new whip but Idgaf. Just copped another one from the og owner that did all the work at a Toyota dealership and has paperwork on everything.3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner. TANKS.
I spent 3k on an 04 Elantra with 130k in 2012 and that thing has been great to me. In 5 years I've only had to replace the radiator alternator and a battery. When she finally gives in I'm definitely gonna look into another newer Hyundai.
