Ok, i'm seeing all this about the XIV being the first actual fake, I came across this fake IV yesterday after searching on this topic and it surely is not a counterfiet of the retro. Look at the footwork in the background.image
The first fakes were created around 1997-1998. The guess that make most sense for the question is XIII or XIV.
And no, they are not counterfeit of original. I believe the picture is taken in a Asian country, more specifically China as that's the place where thebiggest number of counterfeit were made.
For your information, Asian countries still wear those canvas shoes and it is kind of a trend, courtesy of Converse.
