Why Is Reverse Parking Illegal?

My old neighborhood tried to enforce this. It was a condominium gated community. The HOA tried enforcing this!

My brother in law didn't give any dambs and did it anyway. Came back out side with a note on his windshield that said "follow the rules, visitor"

That pissed my whole family off.... So they all brought their cars (like 20 cars) and reversed in all the parking spaces.

They tried calling the tow company... They all waited until the trucks arrived. Ran into their cars and drove off!
one of the whitest stories i've read on niketalk

Whitest? Stories have colors? Explain yourself bruh!!!!!

I have to pay $200 for simply cruising in the left lane. Couldn't believe it when I asked what they pulled me over for.
i hate that out here in co/wy.. its safer to be in a passing lane and see ahead versus staying behind a truck or car and having to worry about them instead of being able to see ahead for conditions

Every time the car in front of me overshoots the spot just to back in, I always want to just swipe the spot from him just to show how dumb/inconsiderate it is to make the person behind you wait for you to back in unnecessarily.

Yeah you just have a ahole personality

Never actually done it, but it's pretty inconsiderate to make someone think you're just driving through only to put on your reverse lights

So a whole 5 seconds of your day is wasted....

As someone who backs in all the time, I don't see how it's inconsiderate. If your signal is on, indicating that you want a certain spot, the person behind you needs to wait no matter how you prefer to park. Simple as that.

Are you cool with people sitting at a light for an extra 5 seconds texting while it's green too? Same thing.

Also, even if the blinker is on, how am I supposed to know they are turning in to that spot they just passed as opposed to one right in front of them I might not see?

It's not the same thing

Not paying attention =/= waiting (while someone has a blinker on) to park.

Also, why are you over thinking it? If I see someone sitting with a blinker on, I'm going to assume they are waiting for someone to come out of a spot or that they're about to pull in. Regardless, I'm going to give them a few seconds to maneuver the car before I do anything. Simple as that.

Huh? I am confused

So am I. I don't know if he means parallel parking the wrong way [facing oncoming traffic] on one side of the street, or actually parking tail first into a parking bay.

I always back in. Easier to get out.

Exactly.

I agree, I back in all the time because it makes pulling out much easier. I always signal my intentions, and the person just waits until I'm done. No different than parallel parking. The person behind you just has to wait until you are done. The only time there is an issue is if the person is riding your *** and doesn't give you enough space to maneuver. This is when I will go in head first, to avoid an accident.

Place my boy lives in won't let you back in to a space and it's so dumb to me. I like backing in because it makes pulling out easier (pause). Better visibility pulling out.

Not sure why they would enforce this other than the fact that there are people out there who completely suck at parking. I've seen people do horrible just going in head first. Maybe they are trying to avoid accidents. Unless the State where you live doesn't have front plates and the only way they are visible is is if you park head first.

Backing into spots is considered a violation in some areas - including the college I attended. They want to see your plates (in Florida front plates aren't required) and also the parking permit is located on the front windshield. Since the parking police cruise around and don't want to get out to check to see if you have a permit - they can give you a ticket to discourage the practice.

I get the first part about the plates not being visible so they require you to park front in. But if parking permits are on the front windshield, wouldn't backing in make it easier for the parking police to see?

Yeah I don't know what I was talking about lol. I blame the Red Stripe I was drinking.

The point isn't paying attention vs. not paying attention, it's that they're both "only a couple seconds". Can we at least agree it's annoying when someone sits at a green light for a couple seconds before they go?

Second, If they've got their blinker on (which I can remember happening maybe a handful of times at most in all the years I've been driving) I'm assuming they're going to pull into a spot ahead of them. So when I see them overshoot the spot, then hit the reverse I've got to back up too and waste time finding a new spot. If it's a crowded lot, that could turn into minutes.

I don't see your point about sitting at a green light vs. someone waiting for a spot w/ their blinker on.

If they overshoot the spot (which they had their blinker on for) and you're right on their ***, that's on you. Even if they're pulling into a spot, you still give them a second to get themselves situated.

I always back my rear end. But always bump into poles.
