Wrestling Thread Aug 12-25 | 8/19 RAW -SS Fallout- Bryan d Cena, Orton Corp Champ, Brock Kills Punk

Why wouldn't Tito wait until next week turn on Rampage and cost someone from the MEM their job?

Impact Spoilers for Next Week
From Norolk for the show airing on 8/22

It opened with Bobby Roode, Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian out.  Roode congratultes Bully for winning the title but said that now he's got a target on his chest.  Roode vowed to win the tournament and said he also wanted Austin Aries in the group so they can have even more control of the BFG series.  James Storm and Gunner came out, leading to a tag match.

Roode & Kazarian b Storm & Gunner in a non-title match when Roode pinned Storm after a low blow.

Manik b Sonjay Dutt

Joseph Park won a four-way street fight for 20 poinds over Jay Bradley, Christopher Daniels and Hernandez.  Aries came out and teased joining with Daniels, but instead turned on him.

Bully Ray came out with Tito Ortiz, who is now in Aces and 8s.  Bully said he's going to shock the world one more time, this time he's back with Brooke.  But the Brooke that came out was Brooke Tessmacher.  She and Bully Ray were making out and Ray said he had the "hot" Broooke.

Gail Kim b ODB

Loser of the fall leaves:  Sting & Magnus & Samoa Joe & Rampage Jackson & A.J. Styles (full fledged babyface dropping the failed gimmick) b Devon & Wes Brisco & Garett Bischoff & Kunx & Ken Anderson.  Styles pinned Devon with the Styles Clash, so Devon is supposedly done with the company.

--G-1 Climax finals was a great show. The show moved quickly and almost flew by. The show is available on iPPV for $30 at www.ustream.tv/njpwsub and I'd highly recommend it. I'd recommend some show from last week in Osaka even more, but that's part of the $150 package. There have been tournaments in the 70s with more Hall of Famers (the most amazing lineups would be the original PWF world title tournament, the early 80s International title tournament and the 1975 World Open, all promoted by All Japan, and maybe the first IWGP tournaments come close and some early G-1s. We're not getting almost everyone as a Hall of Fame candidate but I can't come up with a tournament with as many great matches. Everyone who had a part in this should really be congratulated/

--After winning G-1, Tetsuya Naito said that he first wanted to get the NEVER championship, held by Masato Tanaka, and then challenge for the IWGP title in a champion vs. champion match.

--In voting in Japan, Tomohiro Ishii was voted the A block MVP with Katsuyori Shibata second. Kota Ibushi was voted B block MVP with Shinsuke Nakamura second. Interesting that neither Tanahashi nor Naito made the top two. (thanks to Jose Gonzalez)

WHAT WAS THE BEST MATCH IN G-1? (question asked before the final day)

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Tomohiro Ishii 33.3%

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Tomohiro Ishii 20.7%

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kazuchika Okada 20.7%

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kota Ibushi 18.9%

Kazuchika Okada vs. Katsuyori Shibata 3.6%

Kazuchika Okada vs. Tomohiro Ishii 2.7%

Tetsuya Naito is a **** boy man. I can't roll with him as a main eventer in NJPW.

It should have been Goto (had he no gotten injured) or Nakamura winning G1 :{

Also, they need to let Shibata be great. The guy is a star.

Maybe I'm being overly cynical, but I get the sense that the Darren Young thing was mostly WWE's doing. I'm not saying he's lying and it's a work. It's just VERY convenient how this played out considering time and place.

I can tell you the company is ecstatic with the media coverage and attention they're getting from his announcement.

I can also tell you that if my suspicions on this are correct, it would NOT be the first time WWE and TMZ worked together to prearrange a news story.

Darren Young may be gay (more likely bi as there reports of him dating Tamina Snuka).  However, I think the idea of him coming out was completely arranged by WWE.  It's Summerslam week.  WWE wants publicity for the show in LA.  TMZ just happens to see DARREN YOUNG of all people in the airport, and the first thing they ask him is about gay wrestlers?  Yeah...

Agree 100% with this. Its just too convenient...

I know we're gonna try and meet up with the GAWD Suni at some point Sunday. Where we meeting at Sunday beforehand? I'd be down to grab a couple brews before the show starts or whatever else works for y'all.

Went on .com to check out their coverage and this just doesn't feel like an example of WWE embracing a wrestlers sexual orientation for the betterment of the businesses views on homosexuality, hopefully to make it more socially acceptable in the business. But more just WWE exploiting a wrestlers sexual orentation in an attempt to garner so media attention and 2 or 3 PPV buys.

Will be a shame if they turn him face, change his gimmick into some fandango type character, and try to have him ride the support of the "gay wave" only to bury him worse than he's been as a tag team partner. Unfortunately I can see WWE doing that.

But more power to Darren Young and hopefully I'm wrong and he can be a pioneer for the future of the business when it comes to homosexuality. Its just hard to be optimistic when brothers are still fighting and feeling the remnants of something as prehistoric as race issues in the wrestling business. No one should judge one because of their sexual orientation just as much as they should judge someone by the color of their skin.

I understand your skepticism.

That entire scenario yesterday seemed like a perfect storm.

TMZ just coincidentally happened to be in the area where Darren Young was and they coincidentally asked him that question about gay wrestlers.

Regardless of the circumstances more power to Darren Young. Like Michael Ealy brasilian said, I hope WWE doesn't try to exploit this (if they haven't already) and give him some nonsense gimmick.

Got this from another forum.

- former WWE writer Alex Greenfield on Vince McMahon wanting to censor Christian's face on television:

"Right before I started, there was a big show, I think it might have been in Toronto. Christian was just so completely over, and everybody thought he was going to get a push at, I think it was the World Heavyweight Championship at that point. We were on the plane one time shortly after I started, and Vince was just like “God damn, I just don’t like his face. His face really bothers me." I was like, “He’s ugly, Vince?” “No, it’s not that he’s ugly, it’s just, I don’t know, it’s ratty! You know what we should do? That Kennedy gimmick.” And we’re all like, “What?” Some see-on of the Kennedy fortune I guess got arrested for rape in the 1990s at some point. When the woman who was accusing him was on the stand, all of the networks put a blue dot over her face. Vince was like, “God damn, you know what we should do? We should put a blue dot over his face whenever he comes out.” It was the flight to Sheffield, England, also the flight where the Spirit Squad idea was invented. This was a whole flight of bad ideas."
