After seeing this new Witcher 3 gameplay and reading on IGN I'm incredibly excited for it.

I've been a huge fan of Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Never played a Witcher game before but not only does it look spectacular, it sounds like it'll really deliver in the story part and RPG elements. The map is gigantic, meaningful sidequests, interactive ecosystem, ...

I could see this as a GOTY contender

I hope so. Definitely been needing to scratch my Skyrim itch again. DA:I did not do it for me

Loved Skyrim and the first Mass Effect, but even though i enjoyed the gameplay of DA:Inquisition, I absolutely hated almost all the characters including my own. The dialogue choices were terrible and the voice acting was even worse. Huge letdown after Mass Effect, and really kinda spooled the game for me, only got about 60% done

one of my main problems with the witched series is that they put too much stuff into it and its too big. The combat is fine if this were a shorter game, but they are aiming for hundreds of hours and it gets downright dull after a while. In sky rim if I got bored with 1 handed swords, I could decide to switch to a bow, great sword etc and level it up. With he witched, its sword fighting and spells. The same few spells over and over again and the same sword animations over and over etc

Also the witchers quests were almost as bad as Dragon age inquisition. often times you were just farming 15 of "monster X" or fetch quests. They may have fixed it in W3 but if they are aiming for a 300 hour game, chances are theres going to be a ton of boring fluff

TW3 is a complete overhaul...early reviews said the side quests are far more nuanced than the fetch quests that are typical of other games.

^mass effect 4 is being worked on.

Im interested. But somewhat wary that the series is on downward trend

ME2 was fun, but it strayed so far from its RPG roots that I never even played ME3. And from the way people talked about ME3, it seems just as well I skipped it

I see your points. Do you feel that the franchise was weakened by straying away from said rpg roots? I'm not an rpg guy, so ME feeling like a tps with rpg elements is fine with me.

ME1 is still in my backlog. I like what I've played so far. I got lost on a mission, then I just dropped it.

ME was one of those franchises that I heard a little bit about even though I didn't keep up with gaming back then.

I'd like to see how great this franchise supposedly is. Even if ME3 is supposedly bad.

I love Shooters as well as RPG, so my gradual disinterest with the series isn't born from a gripe about the gunplay (which many RPG people disliked)
Rather, I just felt like ME2 stripped away a lot of the small OCD details that make an RPG so rewarding: Finding loot, managing your gear, customizing and managing your team, exploring open worlds. ME2 was very RPG-Lite in this regard

Don't get me wrong tho, I think the ME series is tremendous.
The dialogue trees are the best Ive ever seen. Most games make it impossible to be a "good guy" and a badass, but ME nailed it
And for the most part, your party is filled with interesting and likable characters, which is more than I can say for most of DA:I

idk what they can do with the story but there is a lot of potential with the ME universe so I'm deff interested

ME2 was the best out of the entire franchise imo with the characters and story it topped all of them. ME3 was great but the ending was such a letdown that it did in fact take away from the game especially the smaller cast of characters i found myself bored with them and the characters deff weren't as interesting as in ME2.

ME1 was a mess when i played it since i went from ME2 to ME1 but it was fun as hell. ME2>ME1/ME3

some people would say so and i would love to see what the could do with the RPG elements as they refined the gameplay with each new game. it feeling more like a TPS didn't bother me because it was still fun as hell.

and playing them from start to finish you can see how greatly each game was improved upon.

ME3 wasn't bad per se but it was more of a letdown. the ending really did ruin the whole game really was 0 pay off for the entire game. never had i played a game when the last 15 minutes made me feel so letdown

i hope they add the Mako vehicle again to the new ME like in ME1. it was fun riding around and exploring planets in that thing

Yeah, as much as ME1 is my personal favorite, I wouldn't recommend playing out of order to iYen iYen
Part of what made ME1 so powerful was the new sense of awe about free galaxy exploration. Mechanically, ME1 had some clunky design choices that probably don't hold up well

For some reason I believe that I have read that they are bringing it back. Not sure were I heard that, but I loved the Mako too
As silly as the Mako was, thats part of what was lacking in the sequels; that sort-of Star Trek sense of intergalactic exploration and finding new worlds
ME2 was All MIssion, All the Time
