Your Next Vacation Destination.....?

^^^ Bro don't be scared of driving from cancun to chichen itza. I just did it last month. The car rentals are stupid cheap, but if you have a credit card that covers you for insurance you are fine. They will always try and make you buy extra insurance but it's not needed.

I rented a VW Jetta for 8 days and it was $42 with taxes, Dirt Cheap

The ride from Cancun to Chichen Itza is smooth. Take the toll route. It's a 2 hour drive 2 1/2 if you drive the speed limit. The toll is going to be like $15 but it's worth it. The free way will make you go around through the local villages.

Don't be scared. Yucutan peninsula is safe to drive, and the toll road is perfectly paved. If you buy a tour you will pay 4 or 5 times as much as you need to.

Once you get to chichen itza, the entrance is like $22. Make sure you also do the night show.
wow, I frequent Cancun yearly and never thought it was this cheap. Gonna try it out. Last time I met a local photographer and recommended me a ton of nice restaurants out of the Hotel Zone that I will def hit up this winter.

Share some of that man :)

Puerto Rico is Nice

but Jamaica , Aruba and Cuba could be a better deal

Now this has me thinking

who wants to drive almost 6 hours when you can be in a big a/c charter bus and knock out?

to each their own, i go on vacation to do as least as possible.

^^^ Check out the Driving Route I did. It was so simple. It's literally a triangle. The whole route takes 6 hours. We averaged 1-2 hours driving a day, which is nothing if you stay a night at each spot.

-Chichen Itza
- Coba
- Tulum
- Playa Del Carmen
- Cozumel (Ferry)
- Back to Cancun
- Isla Mujeres (Ferry)

It's really easy driving. All the roads are paved, super easy drive and fun. Total cost with gas for the rental car was under $120 for 8 days.

If you do a day tour for the Pyramid Chichen Itza, you're probably looking at $100 for two people just for that.

Tour companies love people to purchase these excursions, they make a killing off of it.

Also yes and there's too much to think when getting a car. Can be stressful , well the date will come and will see

Not really stressful, I can see if you don't speak spanish and don't understand the signs could be overwhelming though.

You a fluent Spanish speaker papi? The stuff I read online about about ALL of the Cancun Airport car rental companies makes me want to just stick with the tours. They're all saying that they won't let you leave the lot without paying for extra insurance. Maybe if you're a spanish speaker, they'd let you get away with it.

^^^^You just have to be firm. My girl is better at this than I am. Like once you say no....just continue to say no. Tourist know the deal and know that asking you over and over will get you to go the other way, so you have to just continue to say no. We did this in Jamaica when we went to some place that was selling essentially junk to tourist. Tried to sell us $100 worth of stuff down to $60. My girl got in her zone and got them to agree to pay only $35 of a supposed $100 worth of stuff. Anyways....go get a car but just say that is all you want and just continue to do that. Insurance is such a BS scam...and this is coming from a person that sells it.

^^Yes they are going to try and really pressure you. They are going to try all their tactics, they are going to try and trick you into buying it. But if you do your research you'll be fine. I suggest you check with your credit cards to see if they offer primary rental car coverage, also AAA will cover sometimes, and your regular car insurance might also give you coverage. So in my case, I was literally triple covered. Just have your company print out a letter, so it will help you out.

Make sure if you go this route the most important thing is to point out all the damage to the car before you leave the lot, when they do the walk-around with you. Take pics and videos if you need it.

Again, these guys are professionals at what they do. They will really try and pressure you. But if you're from New York area, you've been harassed far worse by someone trying to sell you a $10 mixtape on the subway :lol

BTW, yes I am Hispanic, not mexican if that matters.

This man knows. Just keep saying no politely but be firm. If you are getting hustled in mexico, I don't recommend you go to DR :lol

oye tigre'

This thread is so damn helpful I was already pump for the trip but the insight adds to the expectation

Women....:lol
Been to Aruba before, not sure if it's ideal for a guy's trip though. Cuba always was intriguing to me.

Going on a solo trip to London and Paris for the first time! 3-4 days in each city. Little vacation before I start grad school. Already got a list of the places I wanna see, the castles, Eiffel Tower, Versailles, Louvre, the cathedrals, etc. At first I was feeling a little "scared" since I've never traveled alone nor been to Europe, but I'm starting to get more excited as I'm boarding later tonight.

For those that went are tour guides necessary or should I just wing and explore?

Women are everywhere

If you go to Europe you can stay in hostels and hook up w/ women from all over the globe

So that's what the deal is? Can I upgrade my mixed dorm to a private room without a cancellation fee? :lol

Dude.....you'll be fine. Just make sure to have battery packs for your phone and just visit some coffee shops for wifi. Google map everything and even download the map to your phone so you can use it offline. Pin everything that you want to go to and just start treasure hunting. Most the stuff in Paris is pretty close to everything. London is easy at least since everyone speaks English. If you don't know where to go, just ask someone at the train stations on how to get to it. Eat, grab drinks, take photos....it's a pretty fun and easy trip.

Just got back from Florida, visiting my parents.  Not the most exotic destination, but it was still a good time.  They bought a house in the Port St. Lucie area.  Water was nicer than I expected (blue / turquoise in spots).  Saw a bunch of dolphins and spinner sharks that launch out of the water after bait fish.

Someone in the last couple pages mentioned Cabo.  I went there for my honeymoon, I thought it was pretty cool.  I've been to Playa Del Carmen on the gulf side.  Gulf side is calmer / warmer waters, Cabo is the Pacific which is rougher.  You can't swim in a lot of places, unless you're on the East side of the Baja California peninsula "Sea of Cortez".  We went deep sea fishing and hit some restaurants, but other than that just kinda laid low.

When we were in Playa Del Carmen, we booked an excursion through the hotel we were staying at (Royale).  They setup the shuttle van that took us to the Coba Mayan ruins.  We hiked around the area, climbed an old pyramid, zip-lined, and swam in the Cenote (underground freshwater cave) which was one of the coolest things I've ever done.  Water is crystal clear, you can see to the bottom which was like 70 feet deep.

Not my pic, but this is the cenote we swam in:

Figure I'll throw my IG in here, which is mostly nature photos:  https://www.instagram.com/cosp4rt4n/

Yeah I hate you
:lol
I was supposed to go to Trinidad this year but I got diagnosed with Myfundsalow after Caribana 2016 :{

What was the lodging like?

Got back last night from my own European "boy meets world tour"
Visited Paris, Rome and Barcelona

Paris
hit the usual touristy spots ( louvre (Mona Lisa, Venus diMilo) , Norte Dame cathedral, Eiffel Tower, pont Neuf etc...)
visited jim Morrison , Edgar Allen Poe, Oscar wilde and the Rothschild family tombs in Pere Lachaise cemetery
food was meh, but would highly recommend HolyBelly in the 10th Arr
Shopped in the Le Marais and St. Germain neighborhoods. Came away with goodies from Supreme and the Goyard store
Highly recommend taking a river ride on the Siene and riding the the ferris wheel (5 min walk from the Louvre)

Rome
Visited the Spanish steps, Trevi fountain, pantheon, Vatican museum (Sistine chapel) St. Peter's basilica/square, coliseum, castle de Saint Angelo etc...
Also checked out dozens of plazas, basilicas and churches
The food was amazing, highly recommend the pizza at Sapori e delizie in Monti (near the coliseum)

Barcelona
Visited and did the Camp Nou tour, basilica de sagrada familia, Gaudi park, Barceloneta beach and shopped in Las Ramblas
Also took in an authentic Flamenco show (highly recommend)
Tried some paella but it was just ok

Would rank the cities in this order Rome, Barcelona, Paris. But by no means am I devaluing Paris, but I wished I spent a day more in Barcelona as opposed to Paris
Architecture was best in Rome, simply amazing and seemingly in every corner
Getting around was easiest in Rome as everything is really central located and no more than a 30 min walk from multiple destinations
Spent a lot on Ubers in Paris as most sights are spread out a bit more but their bus system is really good
Barcelona subway system was very easy to use

Now come some pics

Not remodeling, just building. They're literally still constructing the original plans.

Joint is never gonna be finished. :lol
