Since I assume the intended audience of the new show is much broader than the people who enjoy ZMIT, maybe they felt they had to do something like that to hook in younger viewers.

Or maybe the decision was based purely on what the show runner’s think about the kid’s talent, irrespective of her transgender status.

Yeah its still a HS teenager show and apparently today there are more trans teens around going to HS.

They definitely know what they're doing casting a trans actor though.

This is a Saved By the Bell reboot/sequel. On its own with just old cast returning thats something that will get cancelled sooner than later. They had to do something else to be the hook.
