Wondering, whats an amnesty clause?

Each team has one amnesty clause to use on a player currently under contract. The players’ salary will be removed from the team’s cap.

Example: Brandon Roy

Allows a team to release a player & their contract from the team's salary cap with no penalty.

That owners needing protection from themselves kind of thing.

I hope the Lakers can sign him. Roy could be a combo guard off the bench or even starter next to Kobe. He could be the Ron Harper to Kobe's Michael Jordan in a sense.
