He was such a bull in midfield. As physical as he was creative. Loved watching him play over the years. Will be interesting to see how his coaching career unfolds.

I kinda compared him to John Stockton of footy. He did all the dirty things that savy/vet players did when the ref wasn't looking. You best watch yourself when you're playing him & should also give it right back to him too.
My wife's friend whose a lifelong Gooner (Nigerian parents born in London), haaaaaates Xabi from when he injured Cesc years ago when he played for Pool & caused Cesc to miss like 3-4 months...

Back when I used to watch nba in it's heyday of 80s/90s, I always rooted against Utah but loved Stockton's play. It wasn't until later when I noticed the ill ish he & Malone used to get away with. Stockton used to grab dudes around screens on D. He push them when he was going around screens around Malone when he was out of the ref's eye. He always knew where the refs were so he could go to work.John Stockton comparison is so on point

Same thing with Xabi. He had a physicality that was more like an Italian/Serie A player than Spanish/La Liga.
