MLS should be 28 teams. 14 each conference, top 8 from each make the playoffs. If it's at all possible, it'd be interesting to have the bottom 2 from each conf. relegated to the NASL. Chicago would never amount to much in the current MLS format, but imagine if the owners were threatened with at least a year of NASL purgatory.

Will never happen until USL and NASL come to terms on something to merge, etc.. USL currently has the direct partnership with MLS and seems to be going in the better direction business wise. But regardless I think USA is far away from any type of relegation.
Ah, true. I'm not too versed in the minor leagues here, but I cant imagine both USL and NASL can coexist much longer. One has to be cannibalized. If you merge those 2 leagues, and feed a few teams to the MLS (Sac, Minn, Comsos, etc), why not set up a pro/rel system? Would make the seasons more exciting knowing you can't tank and be okay.

I'm not following the logic here. It doesn't have to be as popular as it is in Europe to support 21-30 first division teams. We're not talking about supporting hundreds of top flight teams like the entire continent of Europe does.
In the future could MLS support 30 teams? Maybe. But I would rather they focused on creating a product that can compare in quality to at least the lower quality leagues in Europe.

This way they could sign higher quality free agents, secure loans of higher caliber players, and improve the skill level of domestic talent.
But MLS already exceeds the quality of lower tier European leagues. We need to let go of this, if it's not on par with EPL/La Liga, or if its tainted by America, the quality is trash, mentality.

As for the bolded, MLS has done precisely that year-to-year for over a decade now. The evidence is empirical.

At the end of the day, growing quality and growing fan support aren't mutually exclusively either. But, as I said before, MLS has expanded an incredibly fast rate in the past 12 years. The quality of play has exceeded that rate. So that's not a valid reason as to why MLS should stop at 20 teams when there are clearly additional markets where MLS can thrive.
No one in Europe is gonna want to play in the MLS in cities like Oklahoma City, Columbus, and Sacramento. No offense.

But it will be more attractive to them if they can train in LA, NY, Chicago, Toronto etc.
I don't get this either. There are already 5 (soon to be 6) MLS teams playing in those "attractive" cities. I don't see what that has to do our smaller markets ability to support MLS teams.

Not to mention you saying no one will want to play in smaller markets like Columbus is obviously wrong when there's a recent history of high profile players like Guillermo Schelotto going to cities exactly like Columbus and winning titles.

Germany and the US have a really nice relationship going on.

They find players who can actually play, develop them and we get to see them return home and use them within the national squad. Well in theory at least, that's how it should go in the years to come.

I'm not talking about just EPL and La Liga though, I'm talking about Primiera Liga, Eredivisie,  nevermind Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1

MLS can't even compete with Liga MX, they get washed in CONCACF all the time

Anyway, to each there own though, we have different opinions, that's fine.

The American clubs doing the bulk of the work developing these players up until they turn 18 deserve some credit too.

But agreed, world class development set up, no limits on foreigners in the Bundesliga, and lax restrictions work visas for foreigners make Germany the prime destination for the American youth player looking to head to Europe.

Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 aren't lower tier European leagues.

Primiera Liga is incredibly top heavy. Outside of The big three, few teams year-to-year could finish in the tto half of MLS.

Few leagues in the world can match the Eredivisie in terms of attractive attacking football but overall level of play isn't greatly superior to MLS. Earnie Stewart played a career there, and was recognized as the best front office director in the league the past few years before moving to the Philadelphia Union. He compared MLS and Eredevsie directly on a recent Men In Blazer's podcast, top to bottpm he believes they're about even in 2016, didn't think that was the case 6 years ago.

Liga MX suffers in the same way as MLS in terms of how it's perceived in America because it exists outside the Euro-soccer sphere.

Being an inferior league to Mexico is no cause for embarrassment. Top to bottom Liga MX > Primiera Liga and Eredivisie.

That said, CONCACAF Champions League results aren't really an accurate depiction of the gap between the two leagues.

MLS rosters aren't deep enough to handle the additional fixtures in competiton like CCL, Mexico's are. If you took the top half of MLS and had it compete in Liga MX there would be a gap but it wouldn't be the washing we see in CCL.

The Portland Timbers have signed Nigerian defender Gbenga Arokoyo, it was announced today. He will be added to the Timbers roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 visa.

Paulson and Gavin shoring up the black hole that is our defense this week :hat

Arsenal SMFH Wenger lack to adapt to times has been his biggest weakness. He refuses to overpay for players but fails to realize every other team in the league is doing it. Looks like Wilshire is out injured again, Wenger won't get another player yet end of season will say they could've had the title if it wasn't for injury

Don't know what's stopping Wenger from signing a 50m check for Lacazette and calling it a day, that's a bargain these days :lol

Veratti isn't leaving PSG because he's a champion.

He's focused to CL trophies. He's won domestic trophies. Sure it's great to go play in other leagues, but if he's committed and wants to stay, I definitely want him to stay.

William came out and had the same type of statements towards Chelsea. Commitment goes a long way and reflects on the pitch. A player who cares about the organization will give that much more in effort to win.

Jesse to PSG is a good move also. I'm liking the way this summer has gone.

This is shaping up to be a great summer for PSG. These moves wouldn't have been made by Blanc as he had his favorites and didn't seem to want to change the team too drastically.

I'm excited to see how this next year goes under Emery

Wenger still tries to buy players using1995 transfer money. They way he refuses to spend money, makes it seem like the club givs him a extra bonus for finishing top 4 without spending

I eff with Jese, sucks he's getting forced out. He musta gotten offered a nice contract because I don't see why he'd choose PSG over a different team that would guarantee him as a starter. Maybe he'll link up with some French rappers to get on his reggaeton tracks.

I was hoping Real would make a push for a squad that can compete for a treble, but as of now they seem like what they usually are which is a cup team and not a winning the league team.

I said it earlier this summer but I really want Ronnie to get one more La Liga trophy, Barca and Messi have been dominant in that department.

I really think they need a quality CM for depth that would be ok with a bench role in order to have a real shot at the league. 2 seasons ago they had an insane dropoff when Modric went down. Can't afford to gamble on everyone staying healthy.
