Just throwing names out there. Edwards, Zion, Ja, Lukas,

You taking LaMelo over them?

Yes. No true logic behind it except potential. I think he has a higher ceiling than everyone on that list even Luka. Whether he hits that ceiling or not is to be seen.

I come in peace.

What do you forsee LaMelo, Luka, Zion, and Ja being in 9 years?

I mean since we are already projecting careers at this point. Just curious as to what you think they will end up as.

I think Zion has the highest ceiling but his floor is not being in the league due to chronic injuries. Zion still has the potential to be the freakish athlete we all assumed and he's balling this season offensively. The things hold him back will be injury and defense. This is weird because he was such a dynamic defender in college. Is he not playing defense because he's incapable or is he just trying to conserve his energy and not put mileage on himself?

Bad awareness more than anything to do with his body and/or energy level.

You think he has a higher ceiling than a guy that was euro league MVP when he was 18?

You can look at that two ways though. Maybe, since he’s already been playing pro ball for as long as he has, maybe his ceiling isn’t much higher than what it is now. Aside from shooting, I’m not sure there’s a lot of room for improvement with his basketball skills and feel for the game.

Seems his best opportunity to improve is with body strength and fitness. But even if he does that, what’s it going to lead to? He already puts up 25 and close to a trip-dub every night. He gonna get to 36-12-10 a night ? Seems doubtful.

Vince Carter got voted a starter in a season where he didn't even PLAY much prior to the ASG
VC first all-star game was 2000

That year he avg 25.7 pts 5.8 reb 3.8 ast that year

He belonged there.

To top it off he was rookie of the year where his stats were 18.1 pts 5.7 reb 3 ast

He didn't deserve the start in 2003. He did bench himself for MJ though.

So you think Lamelo has that in him and he has higher potential than Luka?

Luka has room to improve in efficiency and fitness and endurance as you said.

You are moving the goal post

The point is VC got his first all-star game based off merit

Can’t say the same for Kobe Bryant’s first all-star

Right. I was just going to edit my post to add this - no, I don’t think LaMelo’s ceiling is higher than Luka’s. I was just saying I don’t expect to see Luka improving a lot beyond what he is now because of how good he already is.

*Edit - my feelings like this are not unique to Luka though. I think there’s a general tendency to overestimate the room for improvement young players have. We just assume because a guy is young, he can get a lot better, but that’s often not the case.
