VC first all-star game was 2000

That year he avg 25.7 pts 5.8 reb 3.8 ast that year

He belonged there.

To top it off he was rookie of the year where his stats were 18.1 pts 5.7 reb 3 ast
Vince Carter himself said he didn't deserve the nod and gave it up...

Kobe was sponsored by sprite and they were in charge of the votes. I think he was in the commercial to promote the all-star game. It was kinda rigged and he had no business there. Also he won the slam dunk competition in year prior.

It is kinda pointless to talk about who deserves what when discussing players VOTED in. We know that is all on the fans.

Now, if we are talking about Reserves, that is a different story.

You’re mixing up your years
No I am not. I am referring to the 2003 ASG. The point is that fans vote for the ASG. It's a nonsense fan service game and this was pre contract implications. You're arguing for nothing.

Why I never include all-star appearances in convos about individual accolades. It’s just a popularity contest driven by marketing

You’re comparing apples to oranges then

I’m comparing VC first all-star vs Kobe first all-star

Kobe had no business being there

That isn't completely true though.

Sure, in certain cases those voted in might not have been playing/starting (very rare though), but to totally disregard All-Star appearances might be going overboard.

But I get your angle. I do.

  • Had no business being there
  • Scored the most points for the Western Conference while not playing the entire 4th
OK

I’m talking about being selected as an all-star off merit

You are talking about what happened after the fact

Kobe had great marketing, hang time, moesha, sprite sponsorship, slam dunk champ

But based off his performance that year there was no reason he should have been an all-star that year
