yea, but now, everybody is lookin out for pacman. he is the champ, and deserves at least a 52-48 split. i dont think its a reach to say that pacman will bringjust as many people out for the fight, if not more.

Yes, it is a reach.

maybe it was reach before the diaz and DLH fight...but now...not so much. the hottest name in boxing right now is PACQUIAO, no doubt.

Roy Jones Jr. has always been closely associated with his beloved hometown of Pensacola, Fla., but he hasn't fought there in 10 years. That's about to change.

Jones, the all-time great former champion in four divisions who turned 40 last Friday, will face Omar Sheika at the Pensacola Civic Center on March 21 in a light heavyweight fight, John Wirt, CEO of Jones promotional company Square Ring, told ESPN.com Monday, confirming a report last week on ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights." "We've done a deal with Sheika," Wirt said. "I think it's a great fight for Roy and we're excited to be able to do it in his hometown. I know Roy is excited to bring a quality event to Pensacola." Although Jones (52-5, 38 KOs) lost a lopsided decision to champion Joe Calzaghe in New York on Nov. 8, he has no intention of retiring just yet, Wirt said. "Roy hasn't fought in Pensacola since 1999 and he really wanted to bring a fight home to his fans," Wirt said. In a twist, Wirt said the pay-per-view card would include mixed martial arts bouts along with boxing matches. "We're working on that right now," Wirt said. "By combining Roy's boxing match and other boxing matches with MMA fights, we are planning on drawing from both boxing and MMA fan bases. We believe that the demographics of boxing and MMA are distinct, so we are trying to introduce boxing fans to MMA and MMA fans to boxing. That's the business model." Boxing matches and MMA bouts have appeared together on shows from time to time, but not at the top level of either sport or on a pay-per-view basis. "We believe the biggest market out there of boxing is MMA fans and this gives them an opportunity to see a quality boxing event," Wirt said. "It also gives boxing fans a chance to see some compelling MMA matches. We're still putting the rest of the card together but Roy believes this is a good business opportunity." Wirt said the Florida commission has given Square Ring the green light for a show combining both sports. The MMA matches, Wirt said, will take place in a traditional boxing ring. However, he said a fifth rope will be added to the ring and the ring apron will be extended by a few feet to make it more unlikely that any MMA competitors, who often grapple on the ground, would fall out of the ring. Jones hasn't fought in Pensacola since knocking out Richard Frazier in the second round on Jan. 9, 1999, in defense of the light heavyweight championship. Sheika (27-8, 18 KOs), who turns 32 on Feb. 20, has been in numerous exciting fights and had several title opportunities. However, he is 0-4 in super middleweight world title challenges, suffering a fifth-round TKO loss to Calzaghe in 2000 and decision losses to Eric Lucas (2002), Jeff Lacy (2004) and Markus Beyer (2005). Since losing to Beyer in September 2005, Sheika has fought just once, a fourth-round knockout of journeyman Tiwon Taylor in September 2007 on the Kelly Pavlik-Jermain Taylor I undercard. But the fight with Jones came together quickly, said Mike Borao of Sheika promoter Hirsch-Borao Promotions. "I called John about a month ago and I just said that when Roy needs a comeback fight, why don't we do Sheika," Borao said. "Omar is a tough competitor who can't be in a bad fight. John said, 'Let me think about it,' and he called back a couple of weeks later and was interested. I spoke to Omar and we pretty much locked up as quickly as we could. We didn't want to lose the opportunity. Omar is pumped about it. He believes that with all the injuries he's had, his hand, his elbow, that he is finally healthy and ready to make the most of it." I definitely agree with you that Pac-Man is the hottest name in boxing right now, but that doesnt always equate to filling arenas. Pac-Man has always foughtagainst guys with rabid fan bases, mainly Mexicans, that travel well and most recently the most popluar name/draw in the sport, so I think you can easilyattribute any sort of gate success to his opponents as opposed to himself. I could definitely be wrong, but that is the way I see the situation.

I don't know man.....this is NOT a good look for Manny. I don't know who got into Manny's head, but the only people that Manny should listen to isFreddie Roach and Bob Arum. Pac is the hottest name in Boxing right now, and he should be bolstering his legacy by fighting the best boxers right now.

Itwas probably one of the 12 disciples that got into him

Hatton's fans bring in revenue to Las Vegas from buying lots of tickets to the fight, closed circuit tv, spending loads of money at the casino/betting hehas a huge fanbase that like to spend money.

When ever Hatton has a fight his fans purchase most of the tickets like when he fought Floyd all night you hear them singing.

See the thing is this Manny is pretty much belongs to the PI he loves his country so much he will get wrapped up in doing for people he forgets about himself .Dont yall remember on 24/7 when they went back to his hometown and he was giving out food and medical supplies to the people . They both are loved by theircountry but on different levels england loves Ricky but they dont need him to give them hope they have other sports teams namely soccer that are way morepopular than Ricky but they love and support him . In the PI Manny is the national treasure he put that whole country on his back pretty much gives all thosepoor kids hope . This may be a lil off the subject but remember Freddy said he think manny cares too much about others and not himself . I honestly think adeal will be struck within the next week or so because there isnt a bigger fight immediately available for either guy .

Official Pacquiao Statement!

"I am not fighting De la Hoya in this match," said Manny Pacquiao addressing the implosion of his proposed May 2 super fight with Ricky Hatton. "There is no more rematch. Now, they have to put their facts right." Pacquiao alleged that Golden Boy was bluffing, lying and trying to pressure him into sign a contract which was a little short of expectations. The following statement from Pacquiao was released to the media through Pacquiao camp member Winchell Campos.
Golden Bluff in a New Age of Boxing
"Yeah, bring it on. I definitely want to do it (fight Manny Pacquiao). As a champion, what are we doing in the fight game for?"-Ricky Hatton interview, right after beating Paulie Malignaggi, Nov. 22, 2008.
GENERAL SANTOS CITY-In the new age of Barack Obama and the post-Oscar Dela Hoya generation of boxing where equal opportunity and fair play are now the norm, Ricky Hatton's chief negotiator Richard Schaefer apparently is still living in the past.
The Swiss banker-turned CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, has blocked a potential mega-fight with pound-for-pound boxing champion Manny Pacquiao by acting on emotion and past personal gripes against the Filipino spitfire rather than dealing on the merits of the fight and by not giving what is rightly due the four-time, four-division champion.
Schaefer, whose boss boxer Dela Hoya has been soundly beaten by Pacquiao in eight, one-sided rounds last December 6, 2008 before he quit on his stool in a classic "no mas" fashion, was visibly irked by Pacquiao's non-signing of a contract deemed onerous and unfair by the Filipino.
"Frankly, I'm disgusted at the behavior of Manny Pacquiao. He's a spoiled young kid who doesn't know how to behave," said Schafer, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, right after learning that Pacquiao did not budge from his previous stand and even called the bluff of the Golden Boy outfit.
"I don't know what he's thinking," Schaefer said. "What a waste of time, money and effort. Am I surprised he's changed his mind? No. He did it to me two years ago. We had booked the planes, the hotels, printed the press kits for the press tour. It was all ready to go, a big production.
A disgusted Pacquiao read the unsavory comments in the internet. "I find Schaefer's actions and words too aristocratic. He's the one who is acting childish. He is not professional and civil enough to give merits to the negotiating table," said Pacquiao in Tagalog.
Pacquiao expressed dismay that Schaefer's patience was unusually thin, especially with regards to dealing with a projected million-dollar fight. Pacquiao also noted the lies and undue pressure that they have been peddling just to force him to sign the contract which was a little short of expectations.
"They were quoted as saying that if I do not sign their contract, they already have offers for them to fight in the British Isles with 80,000 people watching. Now, it is obvious that they were just bluffing. Now, they are saying, they will fight De la Hoya. Then, they are also calling out Floyd Mayweather. I say, Schaefer is a bad businessman," said Pacquiao.
"I hope they get the same or a better deal when they face Mayweather, who beat and knocked them out in 2007. I hope they get to fight De la Hoya and also get the same or better deal. Hatton's last fight against Malignaggi wasn't a pay-per-view success. Not to make a big deal out of it, Hatton also faced a Juan Lazcano who was no longer in his prime, previous to that fight," added Pacquiao.
"I want to fight Ricky Hatton if the terms are right and fair. Modesty aside, I did not become the best pound-for-pound fighter by fighting patsies on my way to the top. I beat Oscar De la Hoya when he said he was still on top of his game. I proved I can fight at any weight level and I won two different titles in two different divisions, also, last year. Now, I say to Ricky Hatton, king of the 140 pound division, 'Let's get it on,' without the middlemen. You called me out, now I say we fight."
It should be recalled that Schaefer and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum have been through this sort of drama when Pacquiao, the odds-on underdog who was not given a slight chance to win, dealt with De La Hoya. Pacquiao eventually accepted a 68-32 deal in De La Hoya's favor.
"It's unfortunate and not uncommon for fighters to make these kinds of decisions," Schaefer said. "When you beat the man, you think you are the man. Pacquiao is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and as his co-promoter (with a small percentage) we are proud of him. But he thinks by beating Oscar that he is Oscar and he is not Oscar. It's unbelievable. Manny is losing a huge, huge payday."
"What Schafer failed to consider is the fact that I am not fighting De la Hoya in this match. There is no more rematch," added Pacquiao. "Now, they have to put their facts right."

Well, there either trying to build up some hype for PacMan vs. Hatton

or

I guess Pac really is eyeing the winner of Tonio/Mosley as his backup plan
smh.gif

^ if thats the case....lets go mosley! hahaha! rather see a pacman vs. mosley than get beaten to a pulp by margarito.

and i still dont care what anyone says...pacman is the champ. pacman is the one to fight. pacman earned his stripes. he DESERVES AT LEAST a 52-48 split! givehime 51-49 split whatever, but he deserves to get the majority. period.

he DESERVES AT LEAST a 52-48 split! give hime 51-49 split whatever, but he deserves to get the majority. period.

Pacman wanted a 60-40 cut, Hatton wouldn't budge.
The last deal proposed was 52-48 and PacMan declined because he wanted 55-45.

Even with the 50-50, Pac was guaranteed at least $20 mill. He only got $12 mill from the DLH fight. He's not seeing that type of money unless he fightssomeone like PBF.

Not even going to comment on Manny this crap is going to go back and forth but you know eventually the fight is going to be made.

I would love to see his ego get big and think he could take on Margarito.

WOW! then i retract ALMOST everything i said. I just re-read the original article of the fight getting called off, and i had read it wrong. for some reason iunderstood the article as saying that pacman wanted a 52-48 split but hatton refused because he wanted a 50-50 split. but 60-40?! i think thats a little toomuch. however, 55-45 doesn't seem too farfetched either. hatton doesn't really have too much to look forward to besides PBF, but that might not evenhappen. as far as he's concerned, the most money he'll make is fighting pacman. as the challenger and coming off a KO loss, i think hatton shouldsuck it up and take a 55-45.
