Bates was the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator under Mike Shanahan and was being pursued by other NFL teams for a similar position. Carroll reached out to Bates and Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for the job and a source said the Trojans were willing to pay at least $1 million for the position. Carroll was in Colorado on Monday to make his final pitch to Bates, who then agreed to the deal.
Anyone got any info on the guy? Don't follow the Broncos at all.
Citing a Bucs team source, the NY Daily News is "hearing" that Jon Gruden could be headed to Notre Dame to replace Charlie Weis.
Reporter Rich Cimini admits it seems "a little far fetched," but says there's a theory that Notre Dame will buy out Weis' contract after his recruiting class signs in 1-2 weeks. Weis was nearly fired this past season. Gruden went to high school in South Bend and has long had an affinity for the university he nearly attended. Still, he'd be a risky hire for the Irish. Gruden is passionate about the NFL and hasn't worked the college game in nearly 20 years. Jan. 18 - 10:02 pm et

Already without an offensive coordinator, the University of Miami is in danger of losing its defensive coordinator.
Bill Young, who recently completed his first season with the Hurricanes, said Monday morning that he was ''torn'' between staying at UM or becoming the defensive coordinator of Oklahoma State, where he played in the 1960s.
Oklahoma State was said to be willing to pay Young $700,000 annually -- believed to be much higher than his UM salary.
''Right now, I'm up in the air,'' he said. ``I've got mixed emotions. My wife's family is from Oklahoma. Oklahoma State is my alma mater. I will visit with my wife and coach [Randy] Shannon. I'm not sure which way I'm leaning. Coach Shannon is an excellent guy to work for.''
If Young leaves, UM is expected to have interest in Georgia defensive coordinator Willie Martinez, who was a defensive back for the Canes from 1981-84 and then served as a graduate assistant at the school. Martinez, a graduate of Hollywood Hills High, has been Georgia's secondary coach since 2001 and its defensive coordinator since 2005.
Please take this bum Martinez off our hands...

I dont think it really matters at this point. They could bring in Jesus as the DC, you aren't gonna win if you dont have talent. Which wemay have very little of next year or it will be very young, inexperienced talent.Originally Posted by gobucksBC
